Devin Johnston
Anyone who watches this will really enjoy looking behind the scenes and getting a glimpse of how they work their magic. http://www.studiodaily.com/filmandvideo/currentissue/7304.html
ShaunDon
Awesome! Thanks for sharing, Maxer. I've been in love with the new BSG since the very beginning, and after the third episode of the new season I've been dying to read how they produce such incredible visuals for a cable TV show. I don't know which gets better faster, their writing staff or their vfx team... Shaun
Devin Johnston
I really love the new series although I also still like the old one. I hope that the SciFi channel keeps going with this program, one of the most disappointing things they have done was to cancel Farscape and recently Stargate SG1. ShaunDon
I don't think we have anything to worry about. Sci-Fi knows what a phenomena they have, and they're not going to risk messing with it. I'm really impressed with the level of control that Ron Moore and his writers seem to have with the show -- which is funny, because I never thought much of Moore's work on Star Trek, but it just goes to show what a creative straight-jacket a 25-year active corporate franchise can be. They keep twisting Battlestar this way and that, and after the second season season ended I thought that they'd gone too far to recover it believably, then lo and behold season three's had the strongest opening since the miniseries. I too really loved the original as a kid. I met Dirk Benedict (Starbuck) at a convention once and thought he was an awesome dude. I've gone back and rewatched some of it since and I'm impressed by how much they really did carry over into the new series in some form or another. It's just fantastically compelling human drama. Every one I've shown it to, regardless of being a fan of sci fi or not, has dug it. Shaun
bricklyne
......long live the 'Adama "atmo-jump" Manouvre' !!!! May it long be recounted and re-told in the annals of Sci-Fi history. The coolest thing I've seen on screen (big or small) in quite a while. Whoever could have imagined that flames on Galactica would be so cool. I was worried they would have a rough time maintaining the high standard they set after that episode 3 "Exodus", but they just seem to keep raising the bar with this show. It's an absolute crime that they've never won an Emmy. Sci-Fi channel would be absolutely insane to can this show or mess around with Ron Moore's staff or mojo; especially seeing as they no longer have Stargate SG1 to fall back on. My biggest worry would be that the parent producer company, NBC-Universal, will begin to get funny ideas of moving it over from the Sci-Fi channel to their main network channel, where it would be more vulnerable and exposed to Studio exec. tinkering and meddling. These types of shows (like Rome, Deadwood, Sopranos etc.) tend to fare better in speciality channels with niche audiences. Here's hoping.... Devin Johnston
Just looking at the schedule they have to follow has me pretty surprised that they only have a 200 CPU render farm. They must have that pipe line super tweaked up to keep up with the demand of producing 1 episode a week. That kind of work would be a dream to do but the deadlines would be killer.
