Sawyer
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groin_vault Anyone have a good technique for modeling this? I was able to do it once. I created 2 arches extruded and booleaned the intersection and it worked. I tried to recreate it and both arches dissapeared. I have something that works but I cannot recreate it. Ricardo Eloy
Silly idea, but... why not create the structure and then with editable patch create the rest? Shouldn't be too hard, I guess.
Sawyer
Thanks Rick. You know I thought about that and I did not try it the only reason I didn't was that I felt I wouldn't be as exact as I wanted to be. Should have tried it.
BrianKitts
if you are worried about being exact.... you could make the vault in one elevation, copy it turn 90 degrees and boolean the two as an intersection. if you're one of the booleans are evil supporters, just use it as a template to form your patch or poly models, then delete the guide. Thats what I did originally. Worked fine but I could not reproduce it. Eric how did you model that? Thats a bit more complicated than what I need. erickdt
Well... I cheated. I modelled it in Formz (mostly with extrude along a path). If you want to send me the specs of what you're trying to model I'd be more that happy to do it. This one only took me 20 minutes. Or I could send you this MAX file and you can take what you need from it.
