senrikyu
Hey folks, Just wondering if anyone knows what the minimum requirements for running the Vray Spawner are, as far as hardware goes. I'm getting conflicting stories- one person is telling me that you can set up a VRAy DR render farm with a bunch of old boxes, and another says that a lot of older machines can't handle the Spawner.exe- especially to launch the dummy Max file that's required for DR. Can anyone shed some light on how low (ie, cheap and used) you can go in order to set up a decent little render farm? Thanks. Chris
Tyorl
If I nderstand u right - Spawner just a client which can transfer a part of job to 3dsmax with Vray. There are no requirements for spawner only for max on your rendernodes.
senrikyu
From what I understand, once you launch a DR render in VRay, it distributes the task to other machines (Vray servers) which are running a dummy Max file already (because you launched the spawner on those machines.) The dummy max session takes over its share of the overall distributed rendering. However, I understand that older machines tend to fail even before they pick up their part of the rendering- even if they don't have a problem launching Max for a standalone session. Tyorl
if u could open your scene on this machines than it isn't a problem, i think u are openning a big scene on those machines and your scene just couldn't fit the memory on yours rendernodes. senrikyu
Actually, it's more like you launch the Spawner on a machine and it hangs before you even begin rendering. It's supposed to launch an unamed session that then spawns a file called "Dummy.max", but on the older machine, it never gets to the part where it spawns the Dummy.max file. This is all prior to hitting the render button.
Tyorl
Yes, sorry for misunderstanding Try to watch at VRSpawner.log on drive C: What is written there? May be it is a liscence problem? Can u start max with vray as a default renderer and render any scene?
