jtroupe
In 3DS Max, I have shadows being cast by a daylight sustem. How do I make it so the shadows close to the object are sharp, but get blurrier the farther away they are? Thanks

Ricardo Eloy
And get ready for longer rendertimes.
CookiE
I like Shadow Map with a 4096 bitmap and sample of 6 with accuracy of 0.001 This will lower your rendering times
pirallah
Im not sure about this but if you use raytraced shadows there's a rollout there called attenuation...This actually fades out the shadows and yu can control the fading effect with the curve editor, though I cant recall what settings I used. I dont do this anymore because the render time gets exponentially increased so unless you'll kill for the effect, its probably not worth the time. But hey it makes the image look "real"...so... CookiE
You can also use Advanced Raytrace and use the drop down to adv.Ray Traced Params and play with the shadow spread and integrity and you should be able to work on getting a nice traced shadow with a spread
