buffos
Its really funny. Do they call that a newsletter. Have you noticed that they just announced ZERO new features? ZERO. At least for the next 3-4 months. Ofcourse there are i****s that cheer in the NL forum, but i guess they laught when they see their reflection. Amazing! Not a single feature!!!! Just the Maya plugin (but didnt they say that plugin team is independant from the core team??) I could not even predict such a preformance!!!! Devin Johnston
I think they are considering the Maya plugin as a feature
RyanSpaulding
I think this is good though. Why work on new features when users are complaining of so many bugs and issues. Fix. THEN expand.
buffos
(as they said, plugins team is SEPERATE from core development. Besides there are critical features for us architects. Displacement beeing No1) its not a feature by any definition. so they would release v2 with 20000 new plugins!! wow how many new features. Its obvious that there would not be any new features in the next 6 months. Zero. And then they will ask for money for new features. I am 1000% sure about that. That is the reason they dont give us features. They keep them for the next full upgrade. It would be very easy to implement displacement and they have not done it for soooo long. You will see. Some time next year a v2 would arrive and they will ask for money.
Devin Johnston
They can't release a V2 without a working RS2 engine and they haven't even started working on that. I agree they need to implement some desperately needed features, I honestly don't know why they aren't unless they have been to busy working on the network rendering feature to mess with it. buffos
Normally a company releases a new version every 2-3 years. They cannot make Rs2 work in 1-1.5 years. No way. So they will pack and release the missing features to get cash! It makes perfect sense. At least that is my opinion
Devin Johnston
I think they are going to have a hard time selling anyone a Maxwell V2 that still has the RS1 engine in it. I know I'm not going to pay for any upgrade unless there is a significant advancement in both features and speed.

Maybe they just aren't very good at what they're doing.
buffos
Frances 1 year time is enough to put displacement out. Its enough to see some features. But no. They wont do it. If you where NL and needed funds what you will do? Wait 6 years to get new cash flow? RS2 wont be ready no time soon. Wait and see. Around this time next year we would have an v2! (without rs2) This post will be here in a year . (by the way, NL DELETED the feature list threads that stated what they promised!!! If you look at those posts they are deleted. The threads that summed what victor has promised and victor answered.. How convinient)
Devin Johnston
Hey buffos this is off topic but there has been talk of un-banning you at the NL forum, would you come back if they asked you to? This all came about when Mike started calling people idiots and NL said that banning was only used in extreme cases when no other compromise was possible. Back on topic, I really hope your wrong Buffos the very idea that NL would make us pay upgrade fees just to get new features is enough to push me over the edge. buffos
Mike said that, but it did not happen. He just said so. He called me an idiot, and i was banned . By the way i dont want to post back there. There is no reason. Nothing has changed there and nothing will ever change. At least "soon". Its a djvu. Been there... done that As for my prediction. Time will tell. As for the missing threads its a sign. Next we will have a " we did not say that"

Ernest Burden III
It's archived over at Johann's forum. I've already forgotten the URL. NL said that banning was only used in extreme cases when no other compromise was possible. Quoted just to have something to express speechless shock at. Excuse me, they what? No other compromise, ah that was it. Certainly not any of the compromises they offered. Oh, that's right, there weren't any. I'm only reading these threads for the humor anymore. Devin Johnston
Ernest your name was brought up to, I don't remember were you banned or was it self imposed? Mike was quickly slammed for his comments but I have never seen such a deliberate attack from a member that went unpunished. They have definitely backtracked on their banning policy, especially when it comes to NL's own people.
Ernest Burden III
Ernest your name was brought up to, I don't remember were you banned or was it self imposed? You know, its been so long, i cannot even remember... Oh, yeah. That's right. To hell with them. Juan sought me out at the DVC in Boston to tell me how interested they were in getting me back involved, and I mentioned that it would be kinda difficult since the child-God had banned me. My name came up. Up theirs.

bricklyne
You know, some people think I'm only interested in fryrender out of vengence or to somehow do evil to Next Limit and all Maxwell users. Well, I'm not stupid. I know a good thing when I see it. I also have an opportunity to see the development of fryrender first hand. When someone is really listening to you and seeks your opinion as a visualization specialist as to what features benefit others in your profession, that is one thing. Then to have that person start to implement those features really frosts the cake. ....... Isn't this exactly what Nextlimit sold Maxwell on, earlier on? All that hype at the beginning that got them a lot of good press and industry buzz, i.e the promise of being closely involved in the development process of a revolutionary new software and getting regular updates of the development builds, for the price of the pre-order deal. Well, that only seemed to last until the beta v1.22, or actually the Alpha version 1.33 if you really want to get accurate since the beta was actually released in lieu of a promised final version release. I think a lot of people would have been been willing to put up with the instability of the beta ( and even RC's), the constantly changing release dates, if NL had only stayed honest and upfront about their aims and the process. But the moment they decided to whittle down the beta-testing team from people who actually paid (i.e through the pre-order) to for the privilege, to an "A-team", that's when the wheels actually fell off. The out-of-control Mods and fanboys at the forum , those were merely icing on the cake with cherry on top. I envy you Fran since it seems like Feversoft is actually delivering what NL originally promised ( with oodles of professionalism to boot: someone should bottle up how chema responds to users and visitors at the Feversoft forum and teach it at Software developer's course 101: "How to treat people you expect to make money from sometime in the future".), and what I can't ever convince my boss to try again until the final version is released, thanks to the NL fiasco. AdamT
Heh, been a long time since I checked up on the M~R situation--kinda got burned out on it and never really use it these days. Sad to see that nothing's changed. Last contact I had with NL was a Siggraph when Juan assured me that MVerta was going to be removed as moderator ASAP. Just another lie in a long line.
