These are rendered using MAX5's Light Tracer Advanced Lighting renderer(GI)

Not as fast as the Advanced Lighting Radiosity but gives the images a rougher quality which I prefer.

about 30 mins per image on an Athlon 1.5

Yeah, it's just a noise bump, but came out stronger than intended especially on the daytime view.

Any suggestions for an interesting mix?

Thanks

some bigger flat fractal noise wit a small stucco mask and more heavy smaller regular noise to simulate flat strokes with little sandcrumps (don't know the english word) in the cracks?

btw... I like the lighting in the pool a lot... Not too much to comment on those images: so there great! Only a small remark: what is that very light cyan doing in the water to the left of the pool in the first image?

the water material has both ray trace reflection mapping and thin wall refraction mapping - without the refraction the water doesn't look like water, with it I get the cyan wiggle - It's picking up the color from somewhere - dunno where tho?

The sky is just a simple gradient map and there is nothing else cyan in the scene.

I don't mind it too much tho - it's kind of a conversation piece ;)

very tasty work indeed, I especially like the lighting of the night scene.

For the daylight image, how about adding a noise mask to the reflection slot to simulate the non-reflection of some dirt/dust on the floor tile surface?

For the night shot the pool really draws the eye, so needs to be extra good ;) . How deep is it? I'd really like to be just able to see the tiles under water and perhaps some visible light sources under the surface too.

Your original post is years old now, but had to comment... it's a very tranquil design, is it your own or are you a consultant? Also I'm curious if what you used/currently use for your tree renderings (especially when there are LOTS of them) - stock 3D Max models? It doesn't seem to interact with the light as much as the other objects in the scene.

thanks for the eye candy...
