markf
I'm trying to find a map with alpha mask of the edge of a grass lawn. I want to simulate the edge where the grass meets a walk and show the blades of grass sticking up. Can anyone point me to such a map? Thanks. BrianKitts
just use a photoshop brush...... (thes one that looks like a blade of grass) use it with the clone stamp tool set your source in the middle of the grass and then just brush in the edges of the grass along the hardscape. Same method is also good for roughing up grass around trees. although if you're dead set on using a map, you can make it yourself.... same method same brush, just paint yourself and alpha map and use any grass map for your diffuse channel. markf
Thank you for your reply! I use the grass brush in photoshop quite often with still renderings. I need the map for an animation. I have seen maps like I need. I'd like to find a source for one
Jefferson Grigsby
have you tired the hair and fur plugin for ma8+9? wouldn't do i any other way for animations these days. In Max 9 with Mental Ray, it renders very quickly, assuming you do not exceed this magic polygon threshold that causes MR to hang. another possibliity is to use the scatter tool on a grass geometry along the outside edge of the grass object. This will create that transistion you are looking for. The last solution would be a displacement map, but you will be very unhappy with the render times and the noise that it creates in an animated sequence. This is the only mapping soltion that I know of.

Attached is a low res image of what I want to find. I need it higher res than the sample that I have attached.
