Basic Ram question

I know with Vray you can tell it how much ram it can use under the system drop down.

But with standard 3D Studio Max does it just use what ram you have on the system or do you have tell it how much ram you have on the system?

Max doesn't give you the option to define how much RAM you want to assign to it. The RAM use will depend on what it requires for different situations. With Max 9 64Bit version, you can use lots and lots of RAM.

Max does have the 'Conserve Memory' option though...helps prevent crashes and lets you work in other programs better while Max is at full tilt

I want it to use more

It keeps coming up with a error message out of memory, But it goes past about 700mb of ram and i have 2gig

try choose in viewport bounding boxes view, save scene, restart max and render. /some part of memory is for material editor/textures,etc../ ,viewport ,background / or try export to .bat file in batch render, close max and render it directly from .bat file, sometimes it helps. /of course turn of memory frame buffer and render only to file
