Zeilveen
As a follow up on the previous post, this is the same client now with another tastless building, this is pretty hard to get this look good or tastefull. I dont want to over do this and add loads of detail, its just not the building for it. C&C and tips are welcome, http://www.zndesign.co.uk/harlingen-impressie-C01-laag.jpg Thanks Ronald Max9 and Vray 1.5 rc3, photoshopped the sky and filtered with some sketch and outline and little light effects. alex3d
first try a nice composition ambiance, use only the 25-30% of the image to show your building, the rest should be a nice and impresive high resolution sky, several layers of trees giving the idea of deep (back trees darker) foreground trees more contrast and vivid, , i mean there is a thousand of things to add and change. do not cut never the extremes of the building at less you are doing something superb. read some books about watercolor and pencil composing regards
Zeilveen
Thanks Alex, Im doing my best, its just that this is a horrible location in the docklands of Holland, no trees, no other buildings, not even boats to show. I usely work with some things to go on, but everything I add its too much. I mean even trees and bushes are a no go area as far as the client goes. Thanks for your help though, great website you got going there btw Ronald
STRAT
to make that particular image 'nicer', i'd put in nice real trees, a nicer texture to the roads, pavements and grass, make it all uber crisp, put in a nice cloud photo backround etc etc. if thats all the building is, you must do you best to liven up everything else. mahorela
I agree that this isn't the most glamorous building but I think you need to do the simple things well with this. Sometimes it's alot easier to get a realistic result if you haven't got much detail to get in the way. I would look to light this dramatically (one vray light + HDRI and GI) and I would work very hard on making sure the materials I used on the building looked perfect. Then I would spend good time and effort ensuring that the displacement grass looked smoking. I would also use a good hires sky.
Zeilveen
Thanks guys, I really appreciate this. Normally I always look for something that looks beautifull in a building and build my world around that. This was so dull it just killed my artistic side of my brain. Nothing happened. I gave it some more work last night, adding some good crisp tree and nicer sky, in a compo that I think workes ok, I was trying to add more trees but there are and will be none for miles around, but than again Im the guy trying to make this look a good image and sell those bloody units with this pic. Lets me know what you think, thanks,
STRAT
10 times better mate. as you say, ur basically polishing a turd, (but then, turd polishing is a major part of our business), so not much can be done. i'd try and tone that red down. it almost looks self illumed. eksg
It would be interesting if u'll put up some signboards (if needed,it looks like a motel for me) but not billboards, and changing the camera angle wherin you can clearly see the end of the building and some more entourage like people on bikes, etch.just make it a busy place...(or should it be quiet there?)cheers everyone! BN11
Its certainly a step in the right direction. Try adding a couple more cars plus open another door along that long frontage to break up the mass of red panels. Have you tried moving the camera to the right a bit & closer in to reduce / fore-shorten the frontage Good Luck
martin walker
I feel your pain Ronald...had to do a butt ugly view myself a few weeks ago. Heres how mine turned out...bit of texture on the roads, cladding detail, some cars, and a bit of shadow on the overhang. Far from great, but it did the job
Zeilveen
Yeah, I could see this picture with more activity going on, it would make it more alive than it is right now. I dont think I have time to add all the details for that but it is surely a good idea. Thanks Martin for posten your work, I can see this looks much more realistic. Im sure this client has another one of these units comming up within a few weeks and im gonna try and make that one look busy. The thing also is the client doenst want to see alot of things, just units. Also a problem is that he already sold more than 50% so he is pretty tight on the budget. The attached image of an unit fact sheet with nice open worked didnt pass his approval. I was temping him to go for this as an extra item on the job. Anyway, just trying to get more work out off the job and invested some time in it. Thanks guys and im starting work on another project tomorow for the same client, this time a very nice design, thank goodness for that ;-) Ronald

martin walker
its just a simple bitmap I drew, with a bump map ive uploaded it for you
Zeilveen
Thanks Martin for the post and you are right. Mine has a diffuse map (25%)with alternating colours gray and white, just to give a little more accent on the bump map and I can adjust the colour of the material. Good luck mate, Ronald
