martin walker
Has anyone ever tried to put together a "render farm co-op" before. Im presuming we all struggle with render times from time to time, and it would be a great way of sharing out our machines to help each other out. I appreciate it may take a lot of hassle to set up properly, (and a lot of mutual trust!). But as this is a "global" community there could be scope to use peoples downtime to render If this is something that appeals, it could be a great set-up
BrianKitts
its a really interesting thought.... how cool would it be to have a global render farm community..... would be sweet if it could be like a trading community such that you get credits for leaving your machine on and logged in for other people to use. more credits you rack up more you can use other peoples machines for rendering. that being said, I'm not sure you could legally be able to set it up for the reason that everyone would have to have access to all the plug-ins, scripts, and all the extra required stuff for rendering. Since every system on the co-op would have to have all the necessary extras I don't think many of us could afford to join. Not to mention this would probably take someone quite a bit of scripting and coding to setup a web-based interface for file transfer and file queue...... but I bet if you could get that done and find a good attorney to slip you through some kind of license loophole that allowed all extras and plug-ins to be owned and hosted by one source (co-op admin) and not accessible for personal use by others....... then you got a winner! vizwhiz
i might have mentioned something previously somewhat similiar To This http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/20353-intel-pledges-80-cores-five-years.html if, we or someone(s) was To set up a 'rendering farm' That is specific To ONE software That might make This much more manageable as far as plug-ins, Technical requirements and end-user Training maybe This could be an 'informal' co-op of consenting cg/3d users maybe a sticky Poll of who uses 'what' and who would be interested in joining could This endeavor could be a good jump-off starting point great Idea, go for It ** modeling = autocad rendering = max9 ** maybe also The idea of all of us contributing 'royalty free' Textures which i guess we would have To Take ourselves To make This happen i am anticipating getting a Canon Xti 10 mpxl sometime soon so i could participate in This ** maybe one of These would help (when available) http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/2100-10879_11-6134749.html?tag=nl.e019 ** Randy
Arnold Gallardo
Hmm somebody will need to write a server-client software for this to happen unless they can adapt Spider. Yes Spider's still alive: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/SXSpider/ Now just a question of HOW to allocate resources
