Hi Everyone,

New to the boards just thought I'd say "Hi".

I do Arch Vis at Watson Associates in Manchester (UK). We use FormZ and the Electric Image Animation System for our work. We find them to be an exceptional — if rare — combination :).

I'll share some links to our work as soon as I hit the 15 post requirement.

I look forward to being part of the community!

Ian

Hey Iain, Brian,

I've attached some work for you (all about a year old, don't have anything newer here at home).

To answer your question about EIAS, boy, where to begin!

The render engine is quite possibly the fastest out there, in particular the GI is lightning fast, ipso facto there is never any compromise on the anti-aliasing (no need for filters, no reduced quality on dark-sides etc.) because the render engine is so inherently speedy that it can get away without compromises. This speed also means it can have much higher settings (such as texture sampling) as the defaults :).

I love the hub app 'Animator', it's interface is designer orientated - very quick to pick up, easy to use. Though purple !?

EIAS is up to the job, no doubt, it's such a shame that it remains a 3D secret. It misses a couple of features that would be beneficial for arch vis, in my eyes I would love to see it get a viper style texture preview, but that isn't a show stopper by any stretch of the imagination.

It pays my bills! And it only costs what we charge for a day rate :D

Ian

PS. Iain is a much better spelling ;) - my sister lives on the water front in Leith, tis beautiful up there!

I remember my first archviz job (floor plans yipeeeeee) and my new boss was looking at going with Electric Image, there was an archviz animation on the net made with EI that completely blew me away....it featured moving people, cars etc. From what you have shown I definitely think it has potential and it would be great to see more of your work on this forum......we love the variety.

welcome

Ian,

Nice stuff there. It has a distinctive style. Thanks for the comments-my gallery needs a serious update!

I work on the water on Leith! Small world right enough.

I've only ever heard of EIAS being used in film work but every time someone mentions it they talk of the fast rendering.

Keep posting.

Brian,

I've only seen the film (reluctantly as the first one is my favourite comedy film ever but I was surprised at how good and different it was) but last time I was in London the play was on and I wanted to go but didn't have time.

Haha, YES, I have a style! I always wanted one of those.... Cheers for the warm welcome chaps!

EIAS is primarily hard surface renderer, that makes it perfect for digital set extension in film work - which is what it is generally used for in the film/ tv industry these days - Maya has taken over nearly everything else :).

And as you say we all go on about its speed! That and it's clean crisp quality (i sound like I'm describing a beer!?) are the biggest reasons to use it, plus the ability to render ridiculous resolutions and polygon counts, a lot IMAX CGI is done in EI for that reason. We had a job last year working on two BBC towerblocks that required furniture on every floor, it totted up to 30,000,000 polygons, and it rendered at 5000x3500 without a fuss.

Okay, I sound like an advert! Forgive me, youth and energy eh ;)

mahorela: We've done a few mammoth animations here over the years (mostly before my time). Most of the animations we do these days are fairly uniform, I'd love to do something outrageous mixing motion design with arch-vis
