Tom Tom
This is a quote from the lastest Mother Jones magazine. ADOBE SYSTEMS is fighting the use of "photoshop" as a verb. Instead it recommends "the image was enhanced using Adobe® Photoshop® software." http://www.motherjones.com/news/exhibit/2006/11/exhibit.html That is going to make a lot of posts of this forum very very long

FOG Lite
I've never understood why a company wouldn't want their product name on the lips of as many customers as possible. I thought brand recognition was good?
ShaunDon
They've been fighting this a long time. In fact, it's defined in the EULA that you cannot use Photoshop as a verb. They're against it purely for copyright reasons -- if the word enters the popular lexicon and they do not actively defend it as their proprietary word, then it would be much more difficult to prove trademark violations in the future. They don't expect people to stop using the "photoshop" to mean digital image manipulation, they love it as much as you'd expect. But they must make visible strides to maintain ownership of the term at the very same time. Google is actively doing the same thing. Shaun

FOG Lite
I still prefer Kleenex and Q-Tips to the other brands. Still it usually means their product has reached a saturation point in the market place in order for it to have this kind of recognition. Which they have to enjoy just a little bit.
