Hong Kong

I have a burning desire to work in Hong Kong, I’ve worked as an architectural technician for 20years and lived and worked in Manchester UK for life and now fancy a complete change.

Has anyone any experience in working in Hong Kong specifically getting a 2year work permit? There seems to be British based architect offices there, but it seems hard to qualify for a work permit.

I've read threads of people that do work there and also people that have worked there so any advice, experience or contacts would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Phil

I have worked in Hong Kong for 6 years before coming to the U.S.

first thing you have to know is if that company is willing to sponsor your work visa.

Times have changed. It was easy before 1997 (handover from Brit to China).

Before I just went there as a tourist and applied for a company that is willing to sponsor my work permit, it did not take that long for the work permit to be approved.

Thanks for the replies... cool link that's the thread that my wife started this morning haha... nothing is ever easy. It's a really good site. Would you say that architectural is something they would consider skillful or is everone doing it? (if you know what i mean)

Thanks again

Phil

well there's a lot of architects out there right now, and for sure its a tough business with only little elbow room to push yourself into it... architecture is an artform (the largest visual/functional art) and not all architects offer the same styles. some are good with certain genres and some are not.

but no matter what, i think that all architects are skillfull in a lot of ways.
