mzagorski
Hey guys, OK, texturing grass (or anything else) on a flat plane is relatively straight forward.... but how do you guy texture onto land that isn't flat.. ? How do you map a flowing terrain so that the texture doesn't look stretched over mounds of grass etc. ? Thanks
kid
I add a planar UVW Map then an Unwrap UVW Modifier to it then press edit and move the control points around to even out the mapping co-ordinates.
Sawyer
Here is one of the best tips for materials that I have learned. Take a grid made in photoshop. Put unique numbers on the grid. Use the grid as a texture on your bumpy terrain. Render. Where you see streching on the rendering you will need to tweek. In ps overlay grass and grid. Free transform stretched areas till it looks good. Sorry Mike this is not the best tutorial. I know that 3dcafe has a tutorial simular to this somewhere on their tutotial site. But this is a really good book that is where I picked it up. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0735709181/qid=1044390266/sr=5-2/ref=cm_lm_asin/102-3574996-2096118?v=glance
Christopher Nichols
If you model the grass using a nurb surface, you don't have to worry about it, since the uv's follow the terrain... part of the advantage of nurbs.
