JamesTaylor
just crossed my thoughts... when we upgrade to 64 bit etc and save a max file in 64 bit, or a CAD file or even more basic a word / excel file will i be able to send the file to someone else who is running 32 bit and will they be able open it?? i'm guessing not. How about being able to back save to 32 bit file types as an option in the software... in a similar way that AutoCAD allows you to save backwards to 2004 format or 2000 format etc. James
William Alexander
We just upgraded workstations and render farm to XP pro 64. All 32 bit applications, MAX, Modo, PSD, C4D.....get installed in a 32 bit programs folder to be run as 32 bit applications. We needed access to full 4 gig of ram...oh boy do we need it. We don't have any "64 bit" applications at this time so everything runs just fine with the "coward's" who aren't ready to risk going 64 bit at this moment, systems. 64 Bit and 32bit "applications" and compatibility may or maynot be a problem in the future, but I'm not a programer by any stretch of the imagination WDA
DavidR
I was told that stuff done in Max9 64 can be opened in Max9 32, assuming you have enough ram -if your Max9 64 scene uses 8GB, then it won't open in a 32-bit session. I'm looking forward to getting some definitive answers when we test a new 64-bit workstation our group just got.
JamesTaylor
its sounds as if its going to be effected more by the individual software packages and how they have been updated as opposed to a 64bit v 32bit issue. Also, how about drivers for scanners / printers etc. will these have to upgraded to a 64bit version or can they still run 32Bit?
