Guest DsgnVsualization
Hi , I had a question about whiether I needed to have a proffesional degree in Architecture to be successful in Architectural Visualization. I mean I understand that the portfolio is the most important thing. I have a B.S. in Interior Design and I am currently getting my M.S. in Architecture. I also have a certificate in Architectural Technology. Is this enough? I would appreciate any advice. I have had so many diffrent people tell me diffrent things. aaron-cds
I would think you have enough experience from those degrees. You really just need to be able to read drawings in order to build the models.
shangriladida
I am not an architect. I am a Virtual Reality graduate from the Multimedia Univ. in Malaysia. The course is about 3D modelling..and my streaming is into architectural. From my POV, an architect handles a project from its conceptual design to the maintenance of the building. Meaning, u design, u prepare the detailed drawings, u prepare the contracts, u supervise some complex works on site and finally u might handle the maintenance of the building(the architectural related ones) But for CG works, u dont do the constructions, u dont prepare those long dragging contracts....maybe u dont have to prepare the detailed drawings. To me, a CG artist handles the design part. It depends on ur creativity...how u set up the environment of the form tru lightings and all.. And for some CG artist, they only have to wait for their clients, the architects hand in the drawings and from there, these artists will turn the drawings into a realistic form to impress clients and win biddings... The point is, a real architect handles real world design, CG artist is the virtual type architect:P So, ur qualifications in architecture are brilliant! If u know how to model ur creations in 3D, that should be great... Do correct me if im wrong.. -sham-
eksg
Im a licenced architect in my homeland, but im currently working as a CG designer/Interior designer here in bahrain. My job is to conceptualized the design and to create a 3d perspective of the proposal. If u'll asked me,architecture is not necessary in the field of cg architecture, that is if your only wish is to do the presentation. But if you're going to conceptualized, and think of a good designs, knowing 3d is not enough. You must know the possibilities of your design,if constructed, and if you're representing the right thing in your design as it is in real life. In ur case,i might say that u r qualified to do 3d and would come up with a beautiful and realistic and buildable design.Just one advice is that never cease on just doing 3d designs.Read books and be aware of new materials.Dont just be a 3d VISUALIZER,be a DESIGNER.okie.ciao! STRAT
you dont need a dicky bird in qualifications to be an archi visualiser.
Ricardo Eloy
Indeed, you don't need to be an architect to do archviz. Of course, it helps a lot on filling out the blanks left by "real" architects, but I guess with experience you'll be able to do it.
eksg
you dont need a dicky bird in qualifications to be an archi visualiser. What does a dicky bird have to do on being an architect or a visualizer?
BrianKitts
dicky bird = slang for "being nothing" http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=dicky+bird strat was simply saying you don't need qualifications to be an arch-viz artists..... skills required but beyond that.....you need nada! nice one though strat.... haven't heard that one in a while.... STRAT
er? no no, i actually meant you dont need a small feathered avian to be an arch viz dude. (although in certain circumstances it might be an asset)
AJLynn
Well, you do need qualifications. But you don't need registration or any official-type credentials. Experience and a good portfolio are qualifications, as is a non-architecture art, graphics or design degree, and some soft skills never hurt anybody. eksg
Oh,ok.I thought "dicky bird" pertains to something else. This is what happens when you grew up with nuns. Anyway,I am not suggesting that one should have to be licenced or something like that.I was saying that proper knowledge on how things work in real life would benefit a lot when doing your 3d visualization. Cheers everyone!!!
