salf
Ok, dunno if post in this forum or the acad one. I have several 3d models of furniture provided by a furniture dealer that i have to add to our project. But the models, in Autocad are made of several regions, not a mesh, nor a solid, but regions, or maybe an exploded solid, not sure. When importing to MAX I can only see some faces and some otehrs not, I tried using the NORMAL modifier, but doesnt work, still cant see the whole model. ANy idea how to fix this? salf
ok...I know why happens, what I dont know is hot to fix it. Imagine a cube , made with 6 3d faces, now when importing into MAX, I can only see half of this faces, because of the normals, if I apply the normals modifier to the whole model, I would see the other half of faces while hiding the other half, and viceversa...... I can fix it by applyingthe NORMAL modifiera to only the faces I dont see (which normals are the otherway), but this is painfully long......isnt there a faster way to fix this in the autocad file? Ricardo Eloy
When you import it you can select the unify normals option, can't you? (not in front of Max right now).
Msamir
Or try using a shell modifier with a very small amount.
CookiE
You could make sure all your materials are 2sided that should work as well, had the same problem a while back But then it depends on the materials u are wanting to use because some ya dont want 2 sided
Justin Hunt
Is it only in wireframe that you are not seeing all the edges or is also in shaded mode? If its wireframe then do a auto edge in edit mesh. If it is flipped faces the do what the others suggest JHV
salf
found it. Prrety easy solution, but It took some time to figure it out. On autocad I export it to 3ds format, and thats it. I was importing the cad file directly, but if I first save the cad file as a 3ds, and then import this 3s in MAX solves the faces/normal issue. bingm
What version of Autocad are you using, 2007/2008? How were you able to save your file into 3ds format?
AFK_Matrix
What version of Autocad are you using, 2007/2008? How were you able to save your file into 3ds format? Well on 2006 all you do is file --> export. Pretty sure its the same in later versions too.
bingm
I think the export of cad file into 3ds format is no longer supported in ACAD2007 neither the command 3dsout. But still you can import 3ds file into 2007 version or the command 3dsin.
olaojo1
Had that problem too.U can try shell or capholes modifier if the normal modifier is not working.U can also try the unify normals option with the normal modifier.I think the problem comes from importing-if u the choose smooth and weld options while exporting from CAD to max dont click it while importing to max as this duplicates the same command and might give problems. tarek.saade
Hey, you have two simples solutions, 1-Export Dwg directly in max after installing Real Dwg 2007, using ( derive Autocad Primitive/entity) as every part in dwg as single object! and you will not have any problem with any faces. 2-Traditinal way exporting part of object or all object, it depend of complessity of object as .3ds format but using Isolines low( ab 25) and facetres 10.
