Architectural Education Online

I would like to expand my education forward to become an architect one day. Does anyone know if there are any online learning resources that could help me with this?

With my family including 4 kids I can't take a full time course and pay the rent at the same time. Is there any hope for me in becoming a master architect??

I'm sorry to say this but no you’re not going to be able to become an Architect by taking online courses. Most Architecture degrees are 5 years and that includes a lot of studio time which can't be done over the internet. You could probably take some kind of CAD classes but that's about the best you will do.

Maxer is correct, but if Canada is like the US, if you have a bacheleors degree already (I am amazed at what degrees are acceptable, underwater basket weaving would probably work!), you can get a Masters degree in architecture and cut the schooling down to 2 years. You could always check into your local University and see if they offer night courses for a Masters of Architecture, never know, kind of doubt it, but it don't cost anything to check into it. You might also be able to take morning classes and work from noon to 8:00 or something. None of these options seem to thrilling, but if you are dead set on it, you never know if an employer and University faculty might do for someone with drive and dedication as far as working with you, even if it takes a bit longer.

That said, you should be warned that architecture isn't necessarily glamorous, but very stressful at times, so be warned ;)

there is an online, accredited Masters in Architecture Degree available from the Boston Architectural College that starts in January 2007. but it is only for those who are currently working in the profession, and still requires some time spent "on campus" every six months.

good luck. and remember there are many ways to be involved and contribute to the profession even if you are not a licensed, practicing architect.
