eksg
I was just cleaning up my files, and went through some old 3d that i made. Its nice to see old works and to see how one person have improved.Im just sharing this one,my very first 3d image that i made.It was dec 2002,i was in my 5th year b.s. architecture.i modelled and rendered it using autocadd 2000,and composited in photoshop. The first two image was my first 3d.i made it in 20 days.geez..... The next one was roughly about 6 hours work, exl. rendering of course. I hope you can also share yours, and maybe one of your most recent work, just for comparison. This will inspire most of the aspiring cg artist who have there confidence down when they feel that they are "not learning" at all, just to know that all people goes into some kind of metamorphosis. cheers everyone!!! STRAT
i wish i still had some of my first 3d's. they were done all those years back during the beta period of 3d studio rel 1 for d.o.s. my pre-3d's to that were hand coloured models from Autocad rel 9 coloured in AutoDesk Animator for d.o.s. STRAT
thanks trouble is, my best works are still under wraps. i'm eager to post them up but cant. makes stuff in my gallery look years out of date. i hope in 10 years time i'm still doing what i'm doing now, only on faster computers, faster software and on more money it's only since i reached the age of 30+ can i really see more tangable benefits both financially and career wise comming to fruition. i'm in a much more flexable possition now than i was 3-4 years back. but then, i've also heard from others that '30' seems to be a magic age number. up until that age it looks like a never ending uphill struggle. Brian Cassil
I just finished cleaning out my home office and found an old portfolio with some of my first images in it. It's embarrasingly bad. I'll try to scan them so everyone can get a good laugh at least.
AJLynn
I remember what my first one was but I'm not sure I still have it... it was a bizarre thing I made with a shape grammar and rendered with Viz, but I had no idea how to use lighting and hadn't discovered the UVW Mapping modifier or how to make the background not black or the ground plane not planar. martin walker
lol...cool thread heres my first 3D from 1992. It was done in a package called CGAL at University of Teesside. It was command line driven, even looking round the viewport you had to type in a Matrix to shift camera !!! It ran on an SGi "Personal Iris" with a whopping 64MB of Ram if I remember correctly ! Brian Cassil
64 MB of ram in 92 was a TON! I remember the cad stations in the office where I worked only had 1 meg of ram.
Justin Hunt
I remeamber the days when I couldn't render an image over 800X600 without crashing. I'll also fish out some of my first renders, got to find a zip drive to get my first animation. It was a catipillar that eats a majic mushroom and instantly changes into a butterfly. Done before IK was the norm on Strata Studio Pro, 12 years ago. JHV
p_lar
Haha, my first 3d was done more than 10 years ago. Something like a cheese wedge made in old dos 3d studio I've lost the pictures with my old hard drive...
ShaunDon
I first got into 3ds max and modeling/rendering 'cause I was a huge Star Trek nerd as a kid and loved building my own ship models. Not much of it still exists on the web anymore, but here's one I did back in 1996 (so I must have been 14 at the time). The ship was modeled in AutoCAD 12 (with AME) and rendered in 3D Studio MAX R2. My Dad used to have one of my renderings as his wallpaper at his work (he was a designer/pm for a millwork manufacturer). Ended up getting me a job when I was 15 doing CAD drafting for production, so I can't ever say Trek didn't do anything for me. While my friends were working summer jobs at coffee shops, I was doing millwork for high-end cafes. And now I'm the 3D lead for a small studio at 24. :-) Post some more stuff, guys! Zeilveen
My first 3D's are rather old and must be some lines stiched together looking like a house. Next was some space stuff in 1994-5 on my amiga I think. Later made my first 3dstudio 4.22 renders under MS-Dos... mostly tanks and space ships. 1996 saw the light of my first 3D project for an architect... still with 3dstudio 4.22 under dos. Have look :-)) Ronald
BrianKitts
Went digging back into my old cd backups from college and found renders from when i was first learning formZ. These were rendered on old apple computers when the first powerPCs came out... I forget the specs, but i do remember if we tried to use low poly 3d people it would max out the ram and crash the system. Pretty funny to think some of these were in my portfolio when i started job interviewing!

Shaun Wohhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!Your a pretty gifted child there Mr. Shaun, and you're very lucky to have resources like that at young age.Cause I was only introduce to the world of computers when i was 19 years old.imagine,i still have to call my classmates to ask where should I type my documents.hehehe. And that time,I dont have any drafting and 3d software to study. But i got my hand on Photoshop so I did excel on that software.I got into 3d only 4 years ago, using Architectural Desktop, and started using 3ds max only about a 2 year ago.I just learned v-ray about 4 months ago,and now Im still hungry to learn more.It is very inspiring to see how people progress and that is how I feel now, specially that I see that people whom I admire, like you, also started on the same stage as me. Very interesting works guys!!!Keep posting. I'ved attached one of my photoshop work that inspired me on learning 3d.ciao!
eksg
Pretty funny to think some of these were in my portfolio when i started job interviewing! Hehehehe, imagine what kind of portfolio I had that I ended up as an assistant to an architect instead of a renderer that I am applying for.
