3dsmax animation with OpenGL programming

Hi there, I am doing a coursework about 3dmax animation and OpenGL programming.I was asked to export .amo files or .smd files with meshes and motion information from 3ds max, and then use .amo or .smd files in an OpenGL application.

 

The aim of the coursework is to allow user to interact with the animation character.

 

My question is:should i develop all possible motions of character in 3ds max and then export it,or only develop a model of character and make it move in OpenGL application?:confused:
