BrianKitts
any thoughts on modeling this saddle seat? I've tried a couple of passes at it, but not getting the quality of results I would like. http://www.humanscale.com/products/saddle_seat.cfm I've got the spline set for the perimeter, but after that I can't get the infill right, if I extrude it, it's subdivided wierd and I'm not having much luck smoothing out the interior with an edit mesh.... is there a better method that I should be trying? thanks! Gander0
From your starting point I might give the surface modifier a go. If you go to tutorials then go through the modelling a knight tut, that might give you some clues. Otherwise that stool looks pretty symmetrical. You could do a third then duplicate? ajvbochove
Try to model with Patch. With a few vertices and handles you can easy shape this kind organic surfaces.
Brian Smith
Ask Alexander Gorbunov. He's the best furniture modeler I've come across. He could probably whip that chair out during a TV commercial. He's the one that made all the Intero furniture on VisMasters. One thing I learned after seeing him work is that I'll never model furniture again as long as I live. His email is intero_ua@yahoo.com

rotten42
I have the symbol. It's part of the furniture libray I use at work. We are allowed to forward symbols in drawings to designers and Architects so there shouldn't be any problem with you using the block. If you want it, pm me your email. tommyjj
i'd make a flat box-section polygon (make sure it's got plenty of length and width segments) ... turn it into an editable mesh then use the FFD 4x4x4 modifier. Make one half or one third of it then mirror it (if you make a half) or array it (if you make one third) if you havent sorted it, let me know and i'll make a little tutorial for you. BrianKitts
update: ended up doing my own model, but thanks for the manufacturer links... does it ever surprise anyone else how POOR most of the models are that come directly from a manufacturer. I realize most the time they are just made for CAD blocks, but with how popular viz is now it just shocks me that even the big manufacturer's models sometimes are quite lacking and require some intensive cleaning for use. anyhoo....enough ranting, check it out... images of the final model I built are attatched, c&c welcome
Msamir
I think its perfect, how did you model it ?
