aflack
Hi, I've placed a sky jpg in the viewport background slot in Max 9 as well as the effects/environment slot. I'm then using a Vray material for the water, the problem is I don't get a reflection of the background in the water, any idea what i need to do to get it? Thanks. ipxstudios
you might have to create a billboard and map the sky onto that - it will reflect if you do that.
BrianKitts
shouldn't be any reason to have to billboard your background. Does the background show up in the rest of the image...just not in the reflection of the water. sounds more like a problem with your water material settings, perhaps you could post them...... Nic H
goit your sky map set to environ and screen mapping?
aflack
Yep the environment map is pulled into a material slot and is set to environment and screen. This use to work before I installed 1.5 I'm sure. I've attached my water setting but they are just pretty straight forward. I wasn't sure whether to post this in the vray or Max thread maybe someone would have an idea over there.
jkletzien
I'm guessing it is reflecting black? like the bottom half of your background.... In Photoshop Just take your background image from the horizon line up, and paste it upside down over the lower part of your background image. Reflections that find screen mapped backgrounds go to the straight background, and don't reflect what is above them. It is a Max characteristic not a VRay one. Tim Saunders
I'll echo what Jon just said. I had a similar problem until I used a spherical environment. If that's not an option, screen environment is nice because you know exactly what will reflect. Also, I find with wavy water, it looks way better with fresnel reflections.
