aweber
Hi all, i´m new to vray and 3ds, have been always modeling and rendering with microstation, but now i´m trying to change to this new workflow. I have been watching several tutorials about iluminating and rendering, and i still have a few problems i don´t understand. I´m sure it must be very easy, maybe someone can help. I´m using 3ds9 & v-ray 1.5 rc3 I have started with an interior view, just without any material, only walls have material. For lightning i just want to use external sunlight and sky. (just for learning). I don´t use any glass at the windows. It is just a hole. My camera settings: f=8, 1/60 shutter, film ISO 100 Sun is set by default. 1.- So my first question: when i render, if i want to get the light results you see in the image, i have to set enviroment (skylight) override with a multiplier of 300. ¿Is this normal? 2.- If i check "affect background" in the color mapping, my windows go black. ¿What am i doing wrong? 3.- ¿Is there a correct distance to put the sun from the model? Well, as you can imagine i have many more questions, but i would be happy if somebody helps me with this three. I will atach the image and my rendering settings Thanks and best regards

FlytE
If your sun is a direct light, rather than a sphere light...then distance shouldnt matter. If its a sphere light then distance will matter. It is unusual to see environment any higher than 3.0 or something.... I do not know if this is to do with changes in 1.5 (i havent used it yet) but it does seem unusual. Could it be because you have set it to be exponential in your colour mapping? Also, what is your viz background colour etc?
Joseph Petrino
I would stick with a standard Max camera until you get the feel of Vray. The Vray camera adds some new variables. Also if your using Light cache as your second bounce you also need to use Vray materials. As I understand it, standard materials are ignored by Light cache. Hope that helps. aweber
Thanks for the answers: Flyte: sun light and skylight are (i think) new in 1.5, so it is not a standard light, and everywhere i have read its variables should stay at their defaults, because they are right, so i thought it would be important the distance were to put the sun. My background is white. Joseph: you are right, i think i should use standard cameras until i feel ok. And i think also the black windows have something to do with this type of cameras. Its only i thought it was better to use vray cameras id you render with vray. My materials are all vray.
