Ernest Burden III
I used to use WinZip, PKzip back in the DOS days, now Stuffit. But I've got a problem with Stuffit (this on a PC). I've realized it will skip unzipping some of a list of files without any notice. I can highlight 10 files and I get 7 files output, no error message. Do each one-at-a-time and I get all 10. I've been downloading model files from sites like FormFonts in ZIP format so I have a 'backup' version to archive. But with several thousand ZIP files to unpack I simply cannot do them individually. But it looks like Stuffit can't handle multiples, either. Any thoughts on a better zip, sit, rar, gzip, etc unpacker?
AJLynn
I use Winrar for everything like that. With multiple zip files, select them in Windows Explorer, right-click and you have 3 unzip options - unzip here, unzip to a directory named after the one you were mousing over when you right-clicked, and unzip to multiple folders (named after the zip files). BrianKitts
agree here on win rar too.... but you also have the option of using the built in compressed folder tool with XP, and win MediaCenter. I used to use it all the time without ever having a problem. Now that I have winRAR I use it for everything. But if you're looking to not install any new software.....select your files right click and hit extract and you'll get the windows file extraction wizard. Ernest Burden III
....select your files right click and hit extract and you'll get the windows file extraction wizard. I downloaded the WinRar trial, let's see how it goes. I could only get the built-in XP de-compressor to work on a single file, not a selected list of them. And when I right-click I don't get 'extract', its all options related to Stuffit. Thanks, all for the recommendation!
Chad Warner
I could only get the built-in XP de-compressor to work on a single file, not a selected list of them. That's my one gripe about the built in XP unzipper, you can only do one file at a time.
Ernest Burden III
I threw 1050 ZIP files at WinRar and got 1048 out, 2 listed as corrupt. Pretty good. Why couldn't Stuffit do that? My only gripe is that with Stuffit it will unzip to a file if there is only one item in the archive, but to a folder if there are more than one. Winrar seems to have 'to folders' or 'dump everything here' options. I would rather not have single files (most of them) in folders, but otherwise if a file has a few textures they get put in the one big soup pot. Ray
The options in winrar will let you modify the right-click context menu items (in case you didn't discover that yet).
