3DIFX
Hi everyone. Do any of you know where I can find / purchase a 3d model of an Infiniti QX4 and a Nissan Titan truck?
Hazdaz
No luck @Turbosquid?
Ernest Burden III
No luck @Turbosquid? I didn't look there, but at a number of other sites that have a lot of cars, no luck. Why those cars? If I had to guess, you're drawing a house and the owners drive those and want to see them parked out front? Otherwise...there are other expensive sedans and pampered pickups that you can find models of.
Chad Warner
I'm sure it's an owner thing. I've had to purchase an Audi and a BMW because people like seeing their own cars in renderings. No red Ferraris though. I did notice that Sugar3d.com will do custom modelling, so I guess if it's important enough to have the titan in the rendering, you could always pay for it to be modelled. 3DIFX
Yes, just as you all suspected - It is an owner thing. Don't think I have the time to get them modeled as the rendering is due on Monday (they just requested it yesterday). I've already looked around and couldn't find these particular ones. I have some photos, but I don't think the angle will match. I was just hoping that maybe someone had used these two and could give me a clue as to where they got them from. Thank you all for your input though.
Hazdaz
Look for a Nissan Armada instead of the Infiniti - they are basically the same SUV... and both hideous, but that is besides the point. For the Pickup, look for a Nissan Frontier and scale it up by 20% - it is the little brother to the Titan.
Claudio Branch
Why not just add the fee of the additional models to the final price of the work? Or ask your client to provide you with photographs of the vehicles at the proper perspectives for Photoshop? ...especially if the car modeling request was dropped in your lap in the 11th hour! Ernest Burden III
Why not just add the fee of the additional models to the final price of the work? With a house there's not the same budget flexibility, usually. I was also going to suggest finding similar cars instead, I just didn't know which were the 'brothers' of those models. The SUV would be easier, the pickup I didn't see anything even close.
Ernest Burden III
Found the Armada, in Max format: http://www.3d02-ae.com/html_3d_model/3d_model_main.asp?id=3993 or in .lwo http://www.3d02-ae.com/html_3d_model/3d_model_main.asp?id=3992 I looked at the Infiniti site and while its true that the QX4 and Armada are almost identical, the QX4 has a different headlight shape, so maybe you would want to modify the model a bit. His and hers SUV/pickup. How cute. Ah, but if you buy that Armada model, you pretty much have the pickup. The Titan doesn't look much like the Frontier model because the wheel cowlings are very different. But it is a 100% match for the Armada. So if you take the SUV model and simply cut the roof behind the B pillar (A pillar is the first one, the windshield) and just push it down, cut the back seats out, you will get the truck. How do you think Nissan does it? Same thing, really. So with this one model you can get both cars with a little tinkering. Good luck!
Ernest Burden III
I'm sure it's an owner thing. I've had to purchase an Audi and a BMW because people like seeing their own cars in renderings. I always have a story... Years ago I was rendering a design for a new 'house' for one of the Saudi princes. Apparently there are many of them. It was really a huge compound with a garage for his 500 car collection, a separate mansion for the women, etc. Anyway, in the views that showed a car driving in I used a yet-to-be-released Accura NSX, since it was going to be the about the only super-car that this guy wouldn't already have at least one of. I had an Accura at the time, the one that looked like a Honda hatchback.
Chad Warner
Flipside to that story.....there's a free jeep wrangler model out there (I think we got ours from 3dcafe) so one of the guys here took it and made it his jeep-made the color the same, same tires, same spare tire cover, everything. And then made sure to include it in any exterior rendering he did.
3DIFX
Hi guys. Thanks for the help. I've decided to keep the rpc cars that I originally had in the rendering for now. I'll have to let them know Monday that it will be more time and $$$ to change the cars since I can't find a quick fix that won't cost either. Hazdaz: Thanks for the match info. I had absolutely no idea. Great help. Claudio: I don't think its that important to them to add the fee. I'll see on Monday. The client actually did provide photos but one was too low res and neither matched the camera angle that had already been chosen. Ernest: Thanks for all of your effort and the links. That Armada does look like a real close match. The project is actually a proposed free clinic to be run by a church organization on their campus. The cars belong to the pastor and an elder of the church I believe. The project is still on a tight budget, and I don't think that they will want the additional cost or time. We'll see. Adding cars to residential renderings definitely can be tricky business which I definitely prefer not to do. However, if the client requests that their cars be in the rendering, I'd request or take photos of the cars (if I don't have a 3d model handy) at the approximate camera angle of the rendering and then modify the camera angle of the rendering to match the cars. Now if that isn't the tail wagging the dog!
Hazdaz
Hey guys - I normally wouldn't ask this type of question, but seeing as how this thread was already created, I am wondering if anyone has come across a link to a Porsche Boxster model?? I tried the usual places (or atleast the places I know about) - including TurboSquid - and came up with a $150 model which is overkill for the project I am working on. We found another one for like $40 or so, but it was in a format I has never heard of before (or no way to convert it into MAX), so no dice. Any help would be appreciated, especially since this car will be the showcase for the model that I am gonna be drawings tomorrow.
