vizwhiz
blade911 what is your roof pitch? 6 in 12? 8 in 12? do you have a profile of your eave design? how much overhang is There from The walls below? i have done a lot of roofs like This, using autocad 3d solids but havent done This in max, since it works so well in acad metric or imperial? This shouldnt Take more Than 1/2 hour or so (in autocad) ** dont have a clue how To do This in max, maybe someone else could explain i could do This for you but That wouldnt really help you in very The long run randy
Antisthenes
give me 12 min with rhinoceros and it'd be done watertight better than autocad (plumb cut not 90 degree) and exported to any program you please or rendered within with maxwell vray or brazil. 5/12 pitch 1'6 overhangs right? ya and where are those eve cut distances
Brian Smith
Pretty simple in Max...just draw a line and trace each individual surface, attach all lines together, weld vertices, go to vertex subobject mode and move the vertices to the correct height. 10-15 mins ought to do it. TheAllusionisst
I use to use this program in DataCad and AutoCad, not certain how up to date the author has kept it, but it worked great! http://www.roofbuildertools.com/
blade911
k i really dono the technical aspects of the roof. im still learnin! wat do u mean by 6 in 12 or 8 in 12? there are two heights for this roof i guess. not sure wat to call it neway brian i did wat u said. traced lines in max, attacthed all the lines together n then converted to edimesh n tried movin the vertices but the points seem to jus hover in space n not creat a face apart from the main outline face tat lies on the xy plane. i have no problem in movin the vertices to the desired height. basic thin is how do i fill the faces? im workin in metric. the roof is offset by around 500mm from the outline of the house. theres the profile of the house n the roof as one line below wat do i do nxt? blade911
hey guys thanks for d tips n razorback tats pretty fast! i have never used revit. is it better than cad? neway i think i finally got it done in max itself. din take more than 10min for me. earlier the mistake i did was i used separate lines to trace over the plan n forgot to close the splines. once i did tat thins turned out to be ok. i have attatched a test render. now comin to the roof tiles. is there a particular way to scatter them on the roof? don think a texture map will work. how do u guys place the tiles. thanks again for ur help guys

vizwhiz
i believe Nut or Smoke did a Tutorial on Clay Tiles modeling in Max This doesnt address The actual roof modeling part, but it explains Tiles it should be somewhere here at cgarchitect.com, well actually http://www.cgarchitect.com/resources/tutorials/smoke3d/tutorial4.asp Modelling a Terracotta Roof by Montree T. (easyyong@hotmail.com) - Smoke3dStudio "I had an idea of how to draw roof tiles on a roof with editable poly, as one of my recent works needed a close up view of the roof and needed to be more detailed than a bitmap. The model is quite light and not very complicated." ...... ** hope This helps randy
TheAllusionisst
I think this method is very similar: http://www.3dallusions.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1645 Doesn't work for curved mission style clay tiles.
rpompeu
I think you should try to make a displacement map for the tiles, it works fine
