Pete_OZ
My first post, WIP of an alley way. trying different effects. I have used Autocad 2k, 3ds max 5 and photoshop. Any suggestions for achieving realistic rain? Wojciech Klepacki
Hi, Nice start If u want more realistic rain effect, u could use particle system with motionblur on it. U should play with lights, they need more attention. U could also use some "dirty" maps to achieve better mood. rgds, Wojciech Klepacki
Pete_OZ
thanks for the tips, I added dirt to the conc on the left. I put some motion blur on the rain but I think i will have to work on that a bit more. IC
That's looking much better. I like the red reflection but the sign doesn't look big/bright enough to cause that effect. Cheers, Iain
Ernest Burden III
I would like to see more variation in the ground surface--raindrops hit the ground--and the papers collected along the edges. I know that is hard to do, but you started it, do it right. The brick scale looks too small to me, maybe it isn't but that's how I see it, also the texture seems blurred compared to the sharpness of the rest of the textures. Why do the window frames project so much? That is very distracting. The garage has lower contrast than the rest, which isn't necessarily bad, but it is a structure that shows a lot of depth and detail as you see into it, so I would expect matching contrast to the picture as a whole. Better to have lower contrast only at the back of the garage than the whole thing. Is it a flat map? Finally, try moving the car to the other side of the view, showing just the back end rather than the front. Believe it or not, I think that will make a big difference in the mood of the picture. Seeing the front directs your mind towards the right along the street as you expect the car to go, thus spoiling the linear nature of an alley. By using a garage on the other side you invite the viewer to go down the alley, across the street and deep into the garage structure. But the car front spoils that. Show the back end leaving and you will not be pulled off track. It sounds like I am taking the picture into the psyciatrist's office and asking about its childhood. Munz
There is an awesome animated short that I am sure many of you have heard of, Rustboy. http://www.rustboy.com/rustweb.htm If you go to this site and go to the "making of". The third part is how he did his animated rain. Very nice stuff. munz

Munz
The original post asked if anyone had suggestions on how to make realistis rain. I was directing him to the MAKING OF section on how the RAIN was done in that movie. munz
Pete_OZ
thanks again guys!, I am still working on it, this is the progress so far.. Ernest, the garage is a 3d object, I am not happy with it yet, I was going to add a bit more detail to the structure itself. I think it is getting there but I will keep on it for a while yet. cheers. http://www.cgarchitect.com/forum/filepush.asp?file=set7.jpg
