FlytE
Finished working last night and all was fine, came in this morning and all my material slots are displaying as plain black. Yes vray is set as my default mat editor.... Has anyone encountered this problem before?
Craig Ramsay
I think it happened to me a long time ago with a model I got from someone else. Try starting a fresh scene and merge everything from the file you are talking about, that might solve the problem.
Chad Warner
I sometimes have to change the material editor to scanline then back to Vray to get rid of the black.
denham
I thought it had to do w/ linear workflow.
Christopher Nichols
Is it all black? That happened to me once when I lost connection to the license server. Make sure that you are connected to the license server, and that it is up and running.

Camby1298
Its happening to me as well, although I'm using MR. I can't figure out whats the deal!
ShaunDon
I've seen this happen with scenes that we've been working on for weeks ... but then again with max, at some point everything gets too complicated for it and everything goes pear shaped on ya. I've only experienced this once or twice, I think re-merging into a new scene is your best option. Can't remember how I got around it, but it's a pain. Craig Ramsay
Im pretty sure re-merging everything into a new scene was the only way I could solve that problem when it happened to me. No idea what caused it and it doesn't seem like anyone else does either. I might chase this some more and see what I can find. Let me know how you get on. Parker1
I have had it happen several times and every one of them was because there was a problem with the licence server. Check your dongles or reboot your host computer containing the license server file...it works for us every time.
FlytE
Restarting the license server solved it. The main server it runs off went down overnight and the license server wasnt restarted with it in the morning. As a result, viz was showing all the materials as black even though viz was still open and working fine from the previous night. Thanks for the help anyway!
