Max 9 - 32,64 bit questions

Haven't really had a chance to use 9 yet...has anyone noticed any differences in renderings between 32 bit and 64 bit? (meaning differences in the same scene) (not speed differences, but "look" differences)

No, I did a benchmark test with 32 bit max 9 before changing my os to xp 64. Comes out the same.

As for the 8 gig limit, I believe that's a limitation of max not the 64 bit os. That's what the autodesk guy said at the max 9 launch in Chicago.

thats not good news at all :( my company just got me another workstation just for renderings with 6 GB RAM with Dual proccessors,Max 9 32 bit installed..i guess there is no use of it now !!! thats bad...real bad...i never heard of the RAM limits thing..

well i still have my earlier versions of max ..can i use Max 7 with more than 2 gB ?

To allow Max to address more than 3GB of RAM you need Max9 64bit and Winx64. If you bought your copy of Max from a dealer you can probably get something worked out. I would hope that whomever built that machine for you put Winx64 on it as you all requested 6Gb of RAM.

To a point made earlier in the thread I'm about 99% sure that even though the new motherboards supporting 64bit processors will let you shove tons of RAM into them, Winx64 will only allow any one application to address 8GB of RAM. And for Pete's sake what are you doing that you need more than that?

thanks Matt..seems that the problem is solved now i guess the worstaion supports win64x ,we only have to change to max 64

well beleive me...we even need more than that..when you work on urban planning & you have to model even a bolt you'll defenitly need them.

  • 2 years later...

i rendered a scene wih max9, 32bit on a 64bit vista dualcore,and it took 1 hour, 28 mins.

the same scene with max 9, 64 bit on a 64bit xp64 quadcore took 20 mins. significant differences in time are linked to processor and 64bit capabilities with ram.
