ktm07
Hey all! I have a project that requires a wall to be built of a backlit translucent material. I achieved this by adding the texture map to a vray light material and it works very well. Problem is that them material is also reflective and I don't know how to achieve this when doing it this way! Can anyone help??? Thanks! Craig Ramsay
What version of Vray are you using?

Craig Ramsay
If you are using V-ray 1.5 you can use a blend material to do what you are after. Keep your Vray light material as the base material and put a reflective material in the 1st coat slot. You can then play around with the blend amount until it looks correct. Tim Saunders
Sounds like a candidate for the new 2-sided material if you ask me. I love that material!
ktm07
Sorry, I am using Max 8 and vray 1.5 RC2. I have tried both the 2-sided material and the blend and neither is giving an acceptable result. The attached image shows what I am working on. The sloped wall is series of 4'x4'x1" onyx panels that are to appear backlit. I have a multi-sub material that assigns one of 27 different maps to the wall. I assume that I am having problems with the 2-sided material because the panels have thickness. The blend sends my rendering times thru the roof (10x as long). Any thoughts are appreciated! -MerlyN-
If the blend material doesnt work out put a glass plane infront of your wall, set refraction to 255 and adjust the reflection as needed.
