I was really excited about this new feature of photoshop cs2 the one called smart object where you can scale the size of any raster image and it will not change the quality as if the image is taken as vector graphics.

So I downloaded the 30 days trial however when I try to copy and paste an image I don't same to get a dialog box where you can select the smart object option? Is this feature an add on that needs to be installed separately?

here is the link for the video regarding this new feature smart object

I wonder if this can be used for example we render a very small size resolution and just scale up the image using this feature without losing quality anyone tried this?

works with vector graphix!! I don't think it is possible for what you have got planned as it is pixel based and not mathmatical shapes. you can convert an image into a smart object by selecting the layer menu and then smart object and group into smart object

Thanks for all your input.

I did try to convert my image into vector graphics and copy paste it into a new file but it seems to be still pixel based or raster image so I'm still not getting the option smart object.

In that video he's bringing in Illustrator graphics - which are vector. You don't really have a good option to vectorize a raster graphic - there's Illustrator CS2's auto-tracing tool, which is kind of like Streamline, but it's not great. The non-destructive feature preserves a raster graphic's original pixels when you scale or use the other transform tools on it, so you can repeatedly scale, rotate, skew, warp, etc., which would really mess up your image in earlier versions. But there's still no perfect solution for scaling up raster images.
