Arnold Grove
Hi guys, I am new to arch viz, but not new to 3D. I have been doing 3D for about 7 years, but ALL titles & logos. I just took delivery of Max 9 and VRay. I bought the Foundation 3ds Max 8 Architectural Visualization from eBay ($30 new woohoo!) The last few chapters are worth the money alone...and I have the Nichols Int/Ext DVDs...freakin' awsome. So I need an all around book too. I had that monster yellow Max 8 bible in my hands at the book store, but there are also several other Max 8 books as well. So as I say, not new to 3D but new to Max (Im not counting my limited modeling in Max 3 and 5) but I only ever used it for modeling logos from imported EPS files which I then exported to Lightwave or EI. Ive got a couple of big freelance jobs and I need to get up to speed on Max ASAP. Any suggestions from book owners would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...Merry Christmas....ooww..sorry..thats not PC...Happy Holidays Arnie ps, I just pushed the button on Dell's site about 10 minutes ago. I got a good machine after about 3 months of homework, with the help of a lot of great info from this site.

Arnold Grove
Hey Brian, Yes I mean both! I dont have the book in front of me now but I started the first 2 chapters, but skipped to the appendices because I was on the road so I wasnt in front of the box. Your production tips and marketing stategies alone ARE great. So is the training material dowloadable like the files for the book? Or for purchase? Looking forward to those. As for the book, I should have asked in my first post; since I have Max 9, will the Max 8 books work well enough, or is the interface so different that Ill get lost? Yes in Tampa, back and forth between here and Philadelphia. Next time Im in your neighboorhood Ill have to talk you into lunch.
Arnold Grove
Oh yeah I forgot to say...I have Max 9, but I'm waiting for new computer to install so I've been reading through the book to get familiar. Anxious to get started!
Brian Smith
don't know what you mean by training materials...there's just some bonus material to be downloaded just like the chapter files. The interface for max 9 is nearly identical to max 8. You'd be hard pressed to find a difference.

stephen gilbert
sorta dragging you from books to videos but the fundamental dvd from 3dbuzz that's on offer for the next week or so will give you a full understanding of 3dsmax and was created with max 8.0. don't be put off by the term fundamentals though as it's far from 'basic' it has over 100 hours of training covering 3 projects you learn advanced modeling, particle effects, lighting, camera effects, water effects in project 2 and character modeling/rigging and animating in project 3 by the end you'll be full versed n 3dsmax...a great way to jumpstart your max knowledge with a cuppa in your hand! http://www.3dbuzz.com/vbforum/sv_info_3ds.php ..okay back on topic about 3dsmax books! steve g
