jericho0131
Hi, I am trying to make a realistic ivy in an animation, but kind of stuck now. I even have tried bionatics Ivy but they don't look realistic enough. I think the point is how to express the Ivy grows over walls or pillars. Does anyone have seen or done realistic Ivy? If so, I would like to have an advise... Thanks in advanced.
jericho0131
sorry, I forgot to attach the image. I have put the bionatics Ivy in this scene.
STRAT
that ivy looks fine, just make the leaves 10 times smaller.
Ernest Burden III
I have put the bionatics Ivy in this scene. That looks great! But if you will not be seeing it up close, perhaps just build a cage of simple polygons and map a texture with a clipmap, maybe strong bump or displacement. Koper
here is a thread you might find interesting http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/18063-ivy-test.html?highlight=ivy
BrianKitts
in a similar method, I've modeled a single leaf before then used max's scatter modifier on a closed spline to control the edges of where the leaves are placed. It's nice cause you can then control the density of the ivy using the quantity slider on the scatter tool, as well as being able to use the % mesh visibility so you don't kill your viewport with geometry. Crazy Homeless Guy
...i doubt you could animate this, but this ivy showed up on the vray forum. ...although i think you need to be registered with vray to view the thread about it, you should still be able to view the image since it is hosted on imageshack. http://img490.imageshack.us/img490/1302/final1024gd9.jpg http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=17486

jericho0131
Thanks, guys! The ivy posted on the vray forum was really amazing! Now I am thinking particle flow might help me build a realistic ivy. Actually, I have tried to use particle flow with Vray, and I often get this error message...UNHANDLED EXCEPTION...IRRDIANCE MAP THREAD... Is this because I generate to much particles for GI, or becuase of my poor computer?
