What's the best Architectural Glass?

I know this topic has been touched on dozens of times, but every thread I see has a completely different methodology for creating realistic glass. And when I say "realistic", I mean gives the best impression of glass, not necessarily physically correct. I have had some good results from blended materials, but most of these are mixed Max/Vray materials. I'm trying to find a pure Vray material, preferably with a grey tint to it, which reflects background enough but not so much as to give a mirrored appearance. Also, how do you make glass appear more "glossy"? Thanks for the assistance.

You're right, there are so many ways of doing it, and whos to say which is the best.

 

Give this a try though, it works best for me.

 

Vray meterial:

 

Diffuse - pure black

 

Reflection - pure white (make sure fresnel reflections are switched on)

 

Refraction - pure white (although if you still want that light grey tint to it, then dont go pure white, make it a very light gray so that your black diffuse colour doesnt go completely transparent) IOR is set to 1.6.

 

 

This method work awesome if you have enough other objects around it to refelct and refract - if NOT, then make use of HDRI in reflection override under your Vray render settings in the environment tab.

Those glasses and bottles look great. I've been messing around with those settings myself, and they do seem to work pretty well, especially the light tint with the refraction setting you mentioned. I did notice the glass looks best when it is on a shaded wall, or in an indoor scene such as yours. I need to find out how to get glossy reflections on glass that is receiving direct sun (or at least how to make it look more glossy...not quite sure how to explain that one). Think its about time for sleep though, i'll continue experimentation tomorrow. Thanks for the help.
