Ricardo Eloy
Hey, Sawyer! The cars don't cast shadows (at least, not dark enough). I think your lighting needs a lot of work, still. BTW, are these the final colors? I think it's a little too crude to say wether it's good or not... [] Rick
Craig Ramsay
I agree with rick. Add some people, maybe change the view to be a bit more dynamic, add some more parking/road lines and some trees casting some nice shadows across everything Where did you get the car models? I could do with some like that! Craig
Sawyer
Thanks guys. Rick, you are right on with the lights. Mind you though everything is set. The view, colors, design all of that is layed out for me. I would like to post another as a lot of those issues have been addressed but I have no time. Final needs to print tomorrow. All I can do is take what you give me and see if I can use it. Cars are Dosch Design. Great collection problem I have is that they are all European models. Allen
I also purchased the Dosch Design cars - Very nice selection. On the image - add something in the foreground to bring the viewers eyes to the supermarket - a foreground tree shadow would work well. Dirty up the pavement with a diffuse map (add dark areas where cars park and travel) On the building, add the joints between the building panels if you can - this would break up the building quite a bit. Perhaps a sight fractal map on the diffuse layer would make the buildings panels more interesting. Also, looks like you can see all the way through the building - add some walls on the other side of the windows to give the appearance that the supermarket is fully enclosed. Just a few tweeks really. Allen
Sawyer
Allen all good points. Stucco wise they want just pure color no variation. I will try to change the view just a few inches which will sneek the view line into the entrance. I would love to place dirt maps on the parking so I will try to work that in. And of course back wall to the market.

Sawyer
Here is the update. This is what rendered last night so this was before your comments http://www.cgarchitect.com/forum/filepush.asp?file=4-15MARKETsmall.jpg
Ricardo Eloy
Dude, the cars are still floating, with no shadows! I also think the textures are too clean. For example, the walls are as flat as glass. I used to work on the design team for the Safeway stores on the West Coast, and all the walls had very rough textures, such as terracota or whatever. Maybe some bumping will bring them up, I don't know... Besides that, the design itself looks like a huge box. BUT that's IMHO, and you probably have nothing to do with it, anyway... Keep updating us! Sawyer
Yup Rick I haven't tweeked shadows yet. I will. And unfortunatly this is how they want to see the walls (not how the wall will be seen).
Sawyer
Actually some day I think I would like to tell the story of this project. I would have to create an alias but its a wild story.
Sawyer
Unfortunatly I cannot say I am very pleased with this project, for many reason design being one. Timeline being another. Original due date was "sometime in May" then end of April now it is Thursday. If you guys can add some perspective that would be sweet. Image is max 4, fakeiosity. Heck of a lot more trees and cars and people on their way. http://www.cgarchitect.com/forum/filepush.asp?file=4-14MARKET.jpg
Ricardo Eloy
Well, I'm glad to read that you finished it! And about the pint, I can only say "Cheers!" Be sure to post the final version! [] Rick
Sawyer
Rick, I looked the file over & found what I had done wrong lighting wise. I was using that little omni dome plugin and I had done bad things to it while I was tweeking a setting. Apparently I had created 2 light domes inside of each other. Looks a lot better now and I may have gotten the cars to stop floating. It is rendering away right now. I am tired and am going to bed. Thank you all for your help this will never be a project I love but some of the sugeestions I got helped me out on a really really tight timeline. cheers! Oh yeah Jeff, we need a Graemlin with a pint.
Hazdaz
I would suggest you change the colors of the cars to something more muted (less saturated) - after all, the emphasis is on the building, not the cars in the parking lot. I would also go for a more dynamic view of the building. Also the trees seen to have different saturations - like the tall palms seem quite undersaturated compared to the other trees. Sawyer
Hazdaz, You bring up some of the key points of this project. First off this is a required rendering for city submital. So the requirements were to show parking lot, landscaping and 3 corners of the bldg. The developer pretty much placed the camera on the site. Now as for cars we went around and around on this issue quite a bit in the office. I original had them all light/whiteish colors but the principle thought the cars were looking better than the building and quite honestly I think he wanted the building to not be the main feature. Confusing? Yes, we are the architects but not the designer. That just how it goes.
Hazdaz
Well if THATS the case, then your rendering of cars is pretty nice... oh and that building out there, all the way in the background looks OK too. :angeuhoh: I still think you might wanna tweek the colors/saturation of the plants - make them more even. So I take it that this is the only rendering thats gonna be donw for this job?
Sawyer
http://www.sfrendering.com/body-portfolio.html# try that link it should take you to the final rendering and my new site  Such a messed up project that may now be in litigation. I am not involved in the suit but it is still a load of croppies. Thanks all for the help. Not really a project to be the most proud of I will take it off my site soon.
