ahbtsang
Dear all. I always have a thought that in ADT it is impossible to archieve organic buildings eg. Frank Gehry's works. But in ArchiCAD its new function enables users to make organic shapes within their ArchiCAD model. In fact I am an architecture student and would like to know how easy is it to make eg.. curved roof.... tilted walls.... and other crazy designs in ADT. Because I am thinking of purchasing ADT. BTW I am quite fluent in using MAX esp modelling don't know if this will help. Thanks for your help.
Bruce Hart
Hi, I have had some success in modelling organic shapes in ADT 2007 using the new loft tool. You set up a series of profile shapes in 3D space and using LOFT you can select the shapes in order to produce a spline based solid. Grips on the resulting solid can be pulled and pushed to further refine the shape. Open curves used in Loft produce a "surface" object
AJLynn
Nothing is impossible, but ADT is best suited for "normal" buildings. It also does a heck of a lot of stuff that a student has no need for. If you want to be able to get crazy, I'd recommend looking into Rhino. Tom Tom
Yeah Rhino or even better is Catia. You will never get an accurate curve with the loft command. And if you want more then a just a curved surface ie. complex curve odject, then loft will drive you crazy.
Macpod
the loft tool in ADT 2007 is the same as acad 2007 right? Or does it include BIM? Personally, i think its better to create organic buildings using loft, since it would be more manageable when it comes construction. Crazy rhino forms probably need to be turned into something that lofts when its being contructed anyway. Traditional boat hulls use lofts. 3DS and rhino are good for ornaments. Antisthenes
i recommend Rhinoceros too, for modeling and CD's and to investigate MFG CAM software madcam maybe? (because i suppose you are not affording Catia) look at how Gehry used it in combination with CAM software to achieve his organic buildings also i was looking at the BMW building take a look: PS loft is nothing when compared to NetworkSurface with history and G infinity blending.
