estyl
Hi I'm trying to have a nice glossy effect on the top of my building's wall like in the real picture attached and called Wolfsberg. I tried many manipulation wtih the glossy parameters to make my tiles shinning bot the glossy area seems to be to wide and do not give this sharp shinning effect. I'm using Vray 1.50.09 and a Vray light for sun simulation Any suggestion would be appreciate, Thanks

Trevor Tizard
You could try increasing the fresnel reflection ior to 2 or 3.
sterealkey
Hi estyl, When you add refelction to your materiel, you must also in this case lower your reflective glossiness. Its default at 1, but move it down to about 0.7. Do a test render. You will see if it looks okay or if you need to lower it even more. If it gets really grainy, then up the subdivsions of your reflection, its default at 8, move it up to about 15 or 20. I hope I understood your question correctly
estyl
Hey Sterealkey (own you a beer for your dedicaded support, thanks ) well on my material refl. glossiness, I ve put already a value of 0.8 and i decreased it until 0,1 but it still remains ugly. An i've tried fresnel with values from 2 to 10, it just reflects the environment better. But no sharp glossy effect as we can see on my material's sample. sterealkey
No worries man. I never mind helping people, I hate people that are selfish when it comes to sharing knowledge. Okay 1st - Have you tried it with the Fresnel switched off? 2nd - Here is a tutorial that explains the effect you want. By the looks of it you might have to add an additional light to cause this reflection. Scroll down and read from 20 - 26. http://www.aversis.be/extra_tutorials/vray_basic_material_settings_01.htm Its really simple and I think this is what you're looking for
estyl
Dammmm stupid neurones of mine... I did this tuto so many times... and when i need it I don't even think to look in my Favorites links were it is saved. I think that the effect is enhanced with a different kind of light. A sun simulation is sending rays in all directions, the effect must be a wide glossy effect cause it reflects in all directions. but if I use a spot maybe reflexion will be punctual and sharp like in the tuto. Will try and keep you informed
estyl
Ok, I did it... We need, definitely, a max spot to generate glossy effect, no sun, no dome or even Vray lights. by playing on glossy reflection value (0.9-0.7) and on fresnel values (1.5-5) we can make better glossy effect on the rendering of the model. But 2 questions remains: - how is it possible to create an infinite plan under the model to avoid this weird and spooky flying building picture? (by the way sky reflexion still sucks)
sterealkey
Your glass settings are wrong on your windows, thats why your sky doesnt reflect properly. You dont need to have a sky as the background picture to get it to reflect. You can map it as reflection only and still keep your 'street scene' you had. Flying buildings are scary things
