MarkC-UK
All, After several books and tutorials later, I've come up with the render below. I'm fairly pleased with it but I could do with some pointers as to how to get rid of the blotches on the back wall. I'm using Max6 by the way. All comments welcome. Thanks and Merry Christmas:)
MarkC-UK
Come on you MR gurus:D Any pointers on how to reduce the 'splotchiness' on the back wall? All comments welcome!!
F3LIC3
It looks, if you have turned on "preview" in the Final Gather rollout. Maybe thats the problem. Also try to increase the Final Gather Samples, and check your GI without FG, because if the Photon Map is too noisy FG can't smooth it out. MarkC-UK
Cheers Brian. I've done a bit of research and I think it's due to the FG samples.....?? I've not had a chance to tweak it yet though. PS (my units are in mm and everything is to scale) Here are my settings:
jasonio
I'm using XSI 5.11 and 6, but the principles for MR are the same for both apps. You might want to increase then number of photons shot by the lights in your scene. You might also want to set the photon radius manually. A Larger radius may help smooth this out. Try checking the global illumination in the render without FG switched on. Is the wall still blotchy? Perhaps its not recieving enough photons? MarkC-UK
Thanks for the replies. After several hours tinkering, I've managed to eliminate the blotchiness. It was due to the final gather sample size (I think....) However, in doing so, I seem to have lost some of the 'crispness' and definition, especially of some of the foreground objects (the mug and magazine). It all seems a bit soft focus now. Does anyone have any idea why this maybe??? I've posted up my settings and the latest render. Ta in advance.
MarkC-UK
Brian, do you mean sample area sizes as in per pixel (see attached screenshot). Do I need to crank up this setting to crispen things up??
nisus
As far as i can tell (i looked 4sec at your image) you got several probs: - FG settings / BSP: check the regularity of the blobs around the window > tweak - memory issues: i can clearly see 'buckets' > concerve memory - max6: the MR that came with max 6 is not well implemented... you might have SERIOUS issues when you will update to max9. I suggest learning the latter! rgds, nisus
MarkC-UK
Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. After some serious tinkering; I produced this (which, for my first attempt at using MR, I'm well chuffed with):
nisus
Nice one Mark. A pitty you don't use M9, because you could get good benefits from the arch+design materials ;-) rgds, nisus
