i am interested in doing detail drawings in max:D

recently we have providing a lot of details with perspective views

in addition to the common (but boring) orthographic views. :D

the perspective with rendered parts and some semi transparency greatly

enhances the understanding of the detail... which i believe will become more usefull to the construction people :D

anyway, any seasoned hunters out there...:D

I'd recommend first getting very good at poly modeling of details (in Autocad, Max, whatever - I do it occasionally in Sketchup) then developing a style. "Toon" effects and Photoshop compositing can work well. Things like finalToon or as simple as mental ray's Contour shader or Max's Ink&Paint are worth a try.

If you're going to print full-color supplements, you might as well go for full-on GI, but if you want to include them on your detail sheets and you're printing using a B&W laser plotter and having them copied in B&W, make it as simple as you can while staying descriptive, like people used to do in axo/iso with pencils/pens in linework only, simple shading, crosshatch or stipple. (Stipple and crosshatch photocopy better than shading, and you can stipple using AO with a low number of samples.)

Have a look at Architectural Detailing by Ed Allen. I haven't seen the new edition, but at least the old one with the Allen/Iano illustrations has some good examples.
