Sketchrender
Dose anybody know what software was used for the modeling and rendering of the new feature film Transformers, it looks amazing ............. Chrisopher Nichols..........are you on it....
ShaunDon
Looks like ILM is doing the bulk of the effects work -- are there any software packages that they don't use? ;-) Seriously though, they LOOK amazing. I hope Mr. Bay feels like making a good film this time around, but just in case I plan on bringing my iPod and so I can rock out and absorb the eye candy if need be. Brian Cassil
Yeah, ILM's on this one and judging from the trailer as well as the work on Pirates 2 it is going to be pretty sweet at least from a visual standpoint. I'm hopefull the movie will actually be good too. I'm trying to get my kids pshyched for it so we can all go on opening night.
Chad Warner
I'm trying to get my kids pshyched for it so we can all go on opening night. I'm doing the same thing with my son. That way I won't look like such a geek on opening night when I show up by myself.
ShaunDon
Wow, and I thought boys were wired to know that giant transforming robots were insufferably cool! If they don't screw it up, I think they ought to do a Robotech movie next. I might have said Voltron, but kids today would get it confused with Power Rangers or some other crap. [edit] I just realized I used the phrase "kids today" and I'm only 24. Dammit, this society moves too damn fast! [/edit]
Ricardo Eloy
Voltron? Gee, that's old...Lol... It does look pretty cool... Let's hope it doesn't turn out as another VFX flic and nothing more. We all used to play with Transformers as kids, and I'm sure everyone here can't wait to see the movie.
Brian Cassil
Voltron would be cool, or better yet: Battle of the Planets! ILM could do some pretty cool stuff with the Phoenix!

Devin Johnston
How about MASK! Battle of the Planets would be totally cool, so would Robotech or even Star Blazers!!
Nils Norgren
Back to the original topic, I saw some of the files from ILM at Hasbro, the scenes were in Softimage, I assume that they are rendering in Renderman. I think that in hind sight all those shows seem really cool, but if you watch them (dungeons and dragons, he-man, super-friends, GI Joe, thunder-cats, voltron, transformers, etc.) now they don't hold up, at least for me. There are timeless cartoons, warner bros, some disney and I even like a tome and jerry once in a while but the 80's I don't seem to gravitate to. Having said that, I looked up both He-Man and Thundercats on amazon, and the only reviews for both the collections I found all had 5 stars, every single person who felt the need to write a review gave the highest score possible. perhaps I am in the minority in this regard, -Nils
ShaunDon
It's totally true, Nils... I've gone back and watched a lot of the shows I used to love as a little'n and thought they were seriously strange. But they've still got the kitsch value for me -- every now and again I'll pull out the Transformers movie for all my buddies who haven't seen it since grade school and it's a fun romp. That being said, properly updated and adapted for us older folks (I think kid appeal is built into the premises in most cases, though maybe I'm just biased) I think they could still have legs. I mean, going back and watching the old Battlestar Galactica which I loved as a kid is just painful while the revamped series on SciFi is for me a measure of just how incredible television can be with the proper writers and production. Brian Cassil
Are there any shows from the 80's that would "hold up" today? I was watching the Cosby Show recently and couldn't believe how lousy it was, and it was a national phenomenon. In fact 70's TV really is much more watchable today (I love Good Times!). Still, a transformers movie, with or without my kids, has got me all over it. I always thought the premise was one of the more mature ones for any cartoon: A warring civilization that evolved into sentient beings capable of adapting to the technology they come in contact with, stranded on earth millions of years ago and reawakened to renew the battle... that's was good as a cartoon and could be even better in live action. Is this anything that the common public could see? I'd really love to get a look at that.
eksg
Hi there guys! Talking about movies, there's a lot of good japanese and korean hybrid movies. I havent seen the trailer or transformers, but im sure its a lot like them.Try the "Devilman" and "The great yokai war". And speaking of Voltron and Power Rangers, try also looking at Voltes V and Daimos, and also this Bioman which i think is the ancestor of Power Rangers.Just sharing this stuff,Im 25 and still love watching those movies, and i dont care if I will look stupid standing out on the first line to the advance screening of transformers.cheers everyone! Nils Norgren
Is this anything that the common public could see? I'd really love to get a look at that. I am not sure but I would assume not, these things are usually hush hush until the movie comes out, then they will be everywhere. I think it will be good based on the trailer, alas I don't think that it will be appropriate for a 6,5 and 3 yr. old boys (which I have) but in a few years maybe. I am going to see "Happy Feet" which they should love. Since christmas I have seen (again in many cases, and over and over also) Cars, Barnyard, Monster house and Ice age 2, I would say we are living in a preety good time for animated movies these days (especially for boys). -Nils
Brian Cassil
Since christmas I have seen (again in many cases, and over and over also) Haha! I have a 5 year old and an almost 2 year old and know exactly what you mean. From the 5 year old I've learned all the intricacies of the Pokemon Universe and from the 2 year old I can almost recite Elmo goes to the Fire House word for word. The things we do for our kids. Parker1
...but what will be the fate of poor old "SOUNDWAVE" in this next generation of Transformers life?? Maybe he can rip out his chest and put in a Blue-Ray DVD player instead
Chad Warner
Either that or he could become Megatron's Ipod.
Brian Cassil
Actually there has been much discussion about soundwave over at AICN. For this instalment there will be no soundwave (yes, this is only the first in what will be a string of movies). Soundwave will be introduced in a future instalment in a yet unknown form, I'm just hoping they keep his voice, that voice was sooooo cool! Of course, there are other changes, obviously Megatron will not be a gun.
Parker1
Either that or he could become Megatron's Ipod. NICE! It looks kind of uncomfortable, poor guy. I guess the scroll disk would detach and become his mini helper.
