Daf
Hi all, I recently lost a monitor from my dual monitor setup. Until I can replace it I'm using a single monitor. The problem is that I had some items over on the other monitor (layer manager, main tool bar, etc...) that are now unreachable. I can't figure out how to reset the workspace! Duh! Please advise on how to regain access to those lost items - I would really appreciate it! Thanks Daf
Tim Nelson
If you open your max.ini file there will be coordinate locations for all of the menus & toolbars, all in pixel dimensions. I think 0,0 is bottom left, so if any of the menus have first numbers larger than 1280, or whatever your screen resolution is, you will need to change that value to a smaller number, save the file, and restart max. It takes a few minutes to find everything, but then after that it is a piece of cake.
Daf
Hi Tim, Thanks for the reply. Viz 2005 must be different as I thought the same thing - but even deletine the 3dviz.ini file didn't restore the panel locations. What I finally did was to get the "defaultUI.ui" from the disc and load that up - that restored the interface/workspace - then saved as my default UI. Thanks for the reply! Lester_Masterson
I have had the same problem. I was able to increase the resolution of my single monitor to its maximum in order to drag the windows back over. Then, reset your video resolution and all should be well. Of course, this only works if you aren't already maxing out your monitor resolution. Good Luck!
Nils Norgren
I have had this problem and always moved my .ini file out of my max directory, which worked. Often I work from home, using remote desktop to access work computers, my home machine is only a single monitor and at work I have 2. The solution in max 8 was to have 2 .ini files, the standard one for the dual screen and a special one for single screen use, make 2 shortcuts on the desktop and add -i 3dsmaxSingle.ini (or whatever you call the .ini file) unfortuantly max 9 does not use the same system of .ini to manage the prefs, so I haven't figured out the best workflow for this in Max 9 yet. -Nils
