Finished WIP

What this is is a prelim modeling that was used for a presentation. Technically it is both finished and a wip. I will be doing a finished model coming up

Yup that second image is on the simplistic side. While I could have added parapets it would have brought in a level of detail & we really didn't want that. Most of the form is set but just barely. This was just to let the client see the form. Personally I wanted to see viga ends. But again ig there is one detail I often feel I want to see more. Why just stop at parapet why not add canles (scuppers)? I guess we just felt that no detail would work to show the form. That & lack of time. ;)

Looks nice ;) I can see it's nice in term of planning.

The image is a bit simplistic I would say....maybe adding in chamfer to some edge, and give the roof some depth (copy-offset roof's edge inward slightly, then lower that offset to form a proper looking flat roof) it would give it a more sophiscated look and only take second to do it.

Keep working its coming along great.. have you done more on this since you posted it?

 

 

A few pointers. If you don't mind me giving you a few?

 

Your roof line: flat(horizontal) is ok.. but try to bring in some kind of detail their. overhangs and such (maybe), I don't like pointing people to other peoples work but their is a huge amount of

real world architectural examples that deal with the horizontal.

 

Your work here reminds me a lot of 'mud huts' for some reason, maybe this is what you are trying to achieve. Without saying much more, I'm only mentioning this as another avenue to look into.

 

Always keep in mind human scale when texturing.

 

For a building this long their must be more fluctuation in elevation which will innevitably

bring more design issues/elements to the structure, if it dosn't exist and this is not for a client then make up a mock terrain to work from, or use one that already exists around you.

 

Again on the issue of the lot.. try to include how you will work the site, stairs, fountains,

other completely seperate structure, you know what I mean... (I didn't really say fountain.. but you know what I mean ;) )

 

The design you have created here has a few good vantage points, make good use of them,

and some how bring them together (by this I don't mean move them around) what I mean

is draw a visual relationship between them so they don't get lost in the middle somewhere.

where inevitable no traffic will be drawn there, Think of the path a person takes through the building, where the person will stop, congregate, relax, etc.

Sorry NC this is not my design. Actually this is my fathers and the project was a rush job on an in prog design. Really rushed. A one time in my life I hoped to do design but not now I would be happy doing 3d full time (currently I draft 40 hrs and render 10-30 hrs per week).

I actually really wanted to do the site but I just didn't have time. But it will get done it is very dramatic actually drops down 5 feet on the back side.

 

I am from Santa Fe NM and this is where my dad does design. These are all adobe designs which look like the mud huts. Most of the walls will be capped with 18" -+ parapet and then have viga ends protuding 1-2' past.

Regardless you did bring up some ggod points about human scale and adding interst to the elev. I probably wont get back to this for a few months but when I do I will show the updates.
