vizwhiz
is There any way To set up a system To TAG Off-Topic Flamers? There are some People who just insist on putting in Their 2 cents worth when all it does is ONLY DISTRACT from The etc Thread at hand some People just have To add Their opinions and 'dis' certain softwares but They never answer any specific questions just spout whatever Their favorite software is This consequently doesnt add To The knowledge of The person asking The original question and usually only distracts from The Thread and often sidetracks The Thread entirely ** i have seen Forums That keep Track of Flamers and actually BAN THEM for a WEEK or So = TIMEOUT so They can chill or comeback and actually say something constructive some kind of point system That The moderators can add To The individual profile so That This shows up when 'Flamers go wild' just an idea but why not? and why wait? randy
Devin Johnston
I sympathize with you Vizwhiz it is definitely annoying to have to put up with people like that and there always seems to be people like that around. CGA has a policy that all threads should stay on topic and if a thread strays to far away from it's intended subject it's up to the moderator to get it back on track. This site isn't heavily moderated, that's the way Jeff wants it and I think it works pretty well. If there is someone who is always disrupting the discussion with stupid comments or is purposefully saying things in order to create tension on the forum then let a moderator know about it and they will take the appropriate action. cebas
Wow you are reading my mind this week It is really rough. Especially when you look at their last 30 posts and they are all inflammatory. Now people have every right to be enflamed from time to time, but steering usually helpful forums and communities away form being helpful is just not right. Thanks (for a little venting of my own) Michael McCarthy

IC
The danger with this is that the site would become known as a place where you get banned for dissing Autodesk. I know for a fact that CGA is already thought of as kind of a Max/VRay user group by a lot of people (and, to be fair, it is to some extent) so accentuating that even more won't help the site. There was a Maxwell discussion on one of the LightWave forums I look in on and a few external Maxwell discussion boards were mentioned, CGA's being one of them. The difference was that the description of this one was 'a Forum set up for disgruntled users,' which, again, it almost is but of course that was never it's intended purpose. It was also stated that people here don't like Maxwell because they are VRay lovers. Totally untrue but I think representative of how others see this site. Antisthenes
ya having a diversity of solutions to CGA is very important dissing autocad even happens own autodesks on newsgroups and they don't ban people for it there as is threatened here and not even to the same level. good looking IC lets make this place great where dissent and alternatives are welcomed. diversity of tactics: there is enough space for us all. Devin Johnston
I just want to clarify that most of the negative comments about Maxwell aren't about the program it's self but about the company making it. Take a look a the Maxwell forum and tell me that there aren't any disgruntled users there, in fact the only way they have been able to cut back on the negative talk is by banning people. Yes there are a lot of unhappy people when it comes to Maxwell and in part Jeff set up the Maxwell forum so that these people would have a place to talk about these matters without the fear of being banned. This however is very different from flaming, they are two different situations.
Antisthenes
This however is very different from flaming, they are two different situations. based on whose point of observation and interpritation? do we all get a equal say in this and based on what are mods choosen? quizzy
nobody was ever banned from CGA for dissing a certain piece of software. But if people come here to only dis (??) about one thing and dont have anything constructive to add to this forum we might ban him/her.
Justin Hunt
There is a basic understanding that if you dont have something constructive to say then keep it to your self. there are a few who just dont get it and when pulled up on it take it as a personal insult and Bi*ch about being cencored. Is there a "Ignore User" option on these forums? That way you can do your own banning/cencoring. JHV
IC
Maxer, I agree with your post but what I was highlighting was others' opinion of this site. Now you can either say 'who cares' or realise that this site is a huge representation of our sector in the cg industry (and therefore us) and so others' opinion of it should matter. Should we flame anyone who says Next Limit are a shower of b***ards more than 5 times? It used to be such a friendly place-you could leave your front door open all night. quizzy
Iain, just press the "view user profile" and there you'll find the ignore this user option.. very handy for some users... There's allways those people that will disrespect open doors.... and break in...
