jemayes
I am/have created a fairly complex 3D models in 2007 and have several questions which I could use help or advice. 1. Is there a way to use "flat shot" without flattening all linework onto one layer? I am trying to find an easy way to take a 3D model and start dimensioning and labeling but it has been almost impossible in 3D. I have used the flatshot option but it flattens all my linework to one layer which I don't want. 2. How can you plot 3D models with plot styles? I am trying to plot out a wireframe model but have the plotting styles effective. I have tweaking all the different setting but nothing seems to give me the results. 3. Is there a way to edit blocks in 3D? I love the easy of updating a model component in 2D and I thought it would work the same in 3D but whenever I try to edit a 3D block I can only edit in 2D. I hope that makes sense.... If anyone knows I can over come or solve these problems I would greatly appreciate it!!!
neko
i think i have the answer for some of your questions..... 1.) autocad 2007 has a new feature called XEDGES - it can be found under the modify pulldown/3D operations/extract edges. it is an excellent tool for flattening a 3D model (it only works on 3D solids, i believe). it doesn't actually flatten the model, but extracts the edges from it. 2.) not quite sure what you are trying to do ? are you familiar with paperspace ? 3.) i understand your frustration with that one ! try REFEDIT - you should be able to edit in an existing 3D view. hope that helps..... paul
jemayes
Thanks for the tips! I'll give them a try. I'll try to explain my "plotting" question more detailed. I have created the model and want to create construction documents from it. In paperspace I have the particular viewport set-up and want to plot it. I have used all visual styles on the viewport and they don't give my desired result. What I want to do is, in theory plot 3d hidden, setting but when I do my plot styles do not work. I hope that clarifies it.....
neko
gotcha..... right-click on the viewport frame and go to 'shade plot' should be able to set it to 3D hidden there. it isn't set through plotting.
jemayes
I've tried that setting too without luck. Any other ideas? I have a plot style that adjusts lineweights according to color. I use it for all 2D drawings and construction documents. I just want the lineweights to be adjusted accordingly and it won't do it on a 3D model. When I try it doesn't plot correctly or it looks rasterized.
neko
that seems so simple - i honestly can't see what the trouble would be ? i'll try and look into that later, or hopefully someone else will be able to sort you out. just a last thought though...... if you want to change the colour of specific edges of your solids, you can force a different colour on them through solid editing. Antisthenes
i know i might get banned for saying it but try the Make2d command in Rhinoceros works perfect for me. you can always go back.... & forth
msasu
Hello, For your 1st. issue: go in PaperSpace (Layout) create a new viewport using MVIEW command, make it active (click inside), ensure that the current UCS is set to View and call the SOLPROF command. This will create a flat view of the 3D model by separating the visible/hidden lines in two layers, without affecting the 3D model - answer YES to all prompters. After that freeze the layer(s) containing the 3D items - use the option for freeze only on current viewport. Now you are able to dimension and add labels to the flat view. Take care to dimension in active window not above it. Can create more than one vieport in a layout, to be able to have different views on a sheet. Hope this will help you!
