guitarboy
Hi all, im new to vray and am having a little bit of trouble. ive tried searching high and low for the answer to this but only get lead around in circles and wind up confused. so i figured id ask on here and try my luck. with a normal max material i can adjust the specular level easy, its right there infront of you as soon as u open up the materials box, but when i change my material from standard to vraymat, i cant find any specular settings, has vray got it hidden somewhere? or changed it to something else, or do you guys use a different technique to give a shine to your glass, marble, etc materials? if so would you be able to explain it to me if you can? Many thanks.
Ricardo Eloy
VRay materials are physically real. So, you have to think of specularity as a function of reflection and glossiness. Try changing the reflection color do grey and changing the glossiness to 0.8. You'll see the specularity appear. When you change either the reflection intensity or the glossiness value, you'll get different results AND blurry reflections.

Nic H
If you want to use just specular without having glossy effects on you can untick 'trace reflections' this can be useful when you want spec effectsa without the render times. I do this alot on large external scenes or on things that are far away.
