Exterior scene.

Hey guys, I'm working on this "Paradise" scene and I'm using vray sun for the first time. It's kinda blowing out my textures a bit. Any suggestions? Any good tutorials about vray sun and sky out there besides the one on the chaos group website? Or any suggestions from you guys out there. I'm not completely satisfied with the scene yet.

First of all, the sky texture is not right. Its from a different perspective view - its a view from above and not from the view that you have here. In perspective the clouds are getting smaller while looking further away. That is why the sky looks more like a big poster insted of what it should.

Your probably using linear 3color mapping mode - if so crank up a little gamma and bright multiplier to get the shadows a little lighter. But be careful with overlighting some of the other materials. You could use color mapping on a per object basis (of your running Vray 1.5 that is) and make the wood material recieve lighter shadows. Or you could set overide the material or object settings either under the map editor or under the vray parameters for objects. Its really a matter of trial and error to set this up, so start messing with those values.

Some other tips to make things a bit more interesting:

1. Give the wood material a little fine tuning - maybe a bump map or a texture instead of just color.

2. Make creases on the pillows.

In my opinion what you should also do - is make the shot more interesting - widen it a bit maybe - get some more stuff in the background maybe some more palms. Dont let this turn out more a PS image than a rendered one due to the amount of 2d images that were done in post processing over the amount of 3d models.

Cheers

Thanks for the comments.

The sky background is not a above shot. It's actually a straight forward shot. Everything is a 3d model except for the sky card. The sky card looks like that because you can't really see the whole thing. I have a wood texture, but like I said the lighting is blowing things out. I'll keep in mind your suggestions while fixing the scene. Thanks for the suggestions.

Ok, I changed the lighting dramatically. I went for a regular vray light rather then the vray sun. I still have the details for the pillows to do and I have to fix some of the wood textures and maybe add some more plants in the background. I'm also trying to fix the bump maps on the bench seat and umbrella. I got the lighting down, just some material fixes. Any comments would be helpful. Thanks guys.
