Ricardo Eloy
Hi, everyone! I used to have a custom matlib set as the default library for max 8, so every time I started Max the Material Editor would come already populated with my materials (in my case, custom VRay stuff). I did that creating a new Default with a custom made medit.mat file, which was easy and worked like a charm. After we upgraded to Max 9, I did the same but it simply doesn't work. Does anybody know how to do that? Tks!
Chad Warner
That's interesting. I had the same thing in earlier versions but I just saved it as "3dsmax.mat" and it would work. Now in Max 9, it doesn't load up as the default.
Chad Warner
Nevermind. I figured it out. Go to the "defaults\max" directory and replace the medit.mat library there with your own library.
Ricardo Eloy
That's what I used to do, but it doesn't seem to work now. Not sure if it's because of the new directory structure (inside My Documents)... Anyway, I'm trying to figure out how to modify the INI file to load up at least with all materials already VRayMtl... Chad Warner
If you want to get into it, you can change Max to use the regular directories (program files/autodesk/max 9) instead of the my documents directory. There is an ini file called "installsettings.ini" that has a line "useuserprofiles" set it to 0 and it will use the old directory settings. But you'll have to redo or copy any customization you've already done. I have mine setup this way and the medit.mat works.

Iskren
Hello guys I hope you can help me too. I have that problem, can you tell me a way to back to the original material editior mats. All standart, now when I open new scene that appears to me, the old scenes are ok. Thank you! I hope for a fast answer!
Peter M. Gruhn
Iskren, I see that your materials are A+D. I think those are for Mental Ray only. If so, then I suspect your renderer is the old Scanline one.
Iskren
Thank you for your answer. I know that happend when you swith the render from mray to deffault. But in this case this is not the problem. The only difference if i change to mray there appers some mats from A+D but I want to appear the default standart material.
