3ds Max8 Crashes using a camera

HI

 

I am having a profound problem in that Max 8 crashes out whenever I set up a target camera and then chnage the viewport to look through it. It doesn't just freeze, the program just instantly shuts down and the send error report appears.

This happens every time and not just once in a while.

 

I am running

 

-AMD athlon XP2600+

2.08GHz

1GB of Ram

Windows XP

NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600XT with the latest drivers installed.

I have also installed service pack 3 for Max and SP2 for Windows

 

Any help would be much appreciated.

 

Max 5 works fine as does Viz 2007.

 

Also I have tried changing the graphics mode but no help.

Thanks a lot for the reply.

I changed the graphics mode from directx 9 down to 8.1 and all seems fine now.
