twisting a spline cage.

Does anyone know how to twist something, say a spline cage, but constraining the length of each of the spline segments. Say i had an object constructed out of triangles, and i wantedto twist it a given amount. i want all the segments to remain at thier given lengthswhile contorting the entire object. the object itself may decrease in hight or length, and some angles may change, but the lengths themselves would remain unchanged....

 

3d maxes twist modifier modifies the lengths of each of the segments.

Hi,

 

I'm not sure if this will give you the result your looking for but,

 

If you copy your object first without the twist modifier (to use as a reference), then add a preserve modifier on top of the twist using the copied object as the original. You then have the preservation weights settings, one of which is edge lengths (turn to 100%) (play about with settings)

 

Hope this helps, think you might be a bit limited to how much it can twist by keeping lengths the same
