Cabin WIP

As I fairly long time lurker I thought I would finally put some work up.

This small cabin is a current project and I hoped that people might be able to give me some feed-back and advice on it. My main niggle at the moment is the flatness of the gravel and how the cabin seems to sit unnaturally upon it (the grass is the same but I am less worried about it).

The background plane is only there for testing reflection and transparency and isn't doing anything good at the moment. The porch has a full frame and rail that I need to rob off another model.

I hope that perhaps fresh eyes can see other things.

Thank you for your time.

Another work in progress of the same cabin but with the structure complete.

I am unsure whether the foreground objects distract the eye from the cabin - I think that the composition could do with being improved with the middle of the porch being move to 1/3 left or right - I would like the eye to settle more.

I would welcome and comments or critique.

Thank you for your time.

ApeiNe - thanks for the comments, I am using maya for my setup and maxwell for the rendering.

Yes, I am still tweaking the textures - developing a dislike of large areas of wood - not to mentioned that the gravel is still looking poor.

Would you suggest that I soften the lighting some more, currently it is a maxwell sun and a HDRI map to fill in some.

Maxwell

I thought it could be anyone else, but not this one at all hehehe ^^

Don't take my next critices too bad, but I don't know, GI look not so good, and materials are far to be realistics :(

I think you should better try MR on this one, must be more faster to render, and materials are not so hard to create.

Did you use Maxwell studio to render it, and how long did you render this frame BTW ? :D

PS : I repeat, there's no bad critiques here, just some things i can't understand :/

PS2: Is the interior also created ?

ApeiNe - ah well I guess there is plenty more to do, I appreciate the comments.

I find Maxwell quicker overall (including setup) than Mental Ray to get results of a comparable quality but this might just be because I act better with Maxwell.

I do not use Maxwell Studio, rather I just go straight from Maya (with the plug-in) to Maxwell renderer. This render ran overnight, taking maybe 12 hours, although it would have been usable well before then.

The interior has a basic setup for purposes of the exterior shots. The next job will be working on close-ups of a completed interior.
